“You look good in that hat,” I say, and I don’t miss the way she smiles, her cheeks now tinted pink.

Her flush deepens as she keeps her gaze away from me. “And you look good with purple hair.” She finally meets my eyes again, and I can see the heat there. God, do I want it.

Her hand reaches up, thumb brushing across my jaw. “Very Y’allternative.”

I chuckle, spinning her the way we learned during our swing dance lesson. We didn’t quite get this far, but the woman asked for something romantic, and I’m going to give it to her.

Guiding her with my hands, I get her to tip back, keeping a firm grip around her waist and sliding one hand up her thigh, brushing it over her ass. It’s everything I ever dreamed it would be, but I’m trying not to be weird about it.

My nose traces a line against her neck before I pull her back up to stand. “And you’re very pretty,” I say.

Ellis giggles, drawing closer with her arms around me. “Yeah?” she says, her voice now low.

I grab the hat from her head again. While it looks great, it’s in my fucking way. Bending down, I get my lips an inch from hers, the scent of jasmine invading my lungs. I couldn’t wanther any more than I do right now, and we’ve only just started. “Absolutely devastating.”

With one hand placed gently on her throat and the other gripping her waist, I draw her into a kiss.

When her mouth parts, I swear the entire earth stops spinning.

Just for us.

Twenty

Ellis

My boots kick the gravel outside of The Handlebar Ranch as we walk through the darkness to Finn’s car.

His hand clasps mine, warm and inviting, as the wind whips around us and whistles through the trees. The air is significantlycolder than when we’d arrived, and my attention locks on the muffled voices near the ranch by the only light around the parking lot. Two guests lean against the side of the building.

Wes tips his hat when he sees me, pulling a cigarette to his lips and taking a long drag.

“Maybe we weren’t so bad after all,” I say, and Finn chuckles.

With little light, he grabs his phone out of his jeans pocket and turns the flashlight on, shining it by our feet so we can see where we are walking, just out of view of the side of the ranch.

With the quiet night surrounding us, my worried brain settles. I can’t help remembering the way Finn’s fingers felt against my throat as we kissed on the dance floor. How did he even learn to do that? His skin burned beneath my touch when I brought my hands to his face, and it awakened something in me.

That feeling hasn’t gone away.

I want him, and the logical part of my brain seems to be on vacation.

“Thanks,” I whisper as we approach the Jeep. “For the birthday, the dancing. All of it.”

Finn leans forward, crowding my space. He’s still wearing a smile, and I begin to think that the RBF from the coffee shop wasn’t the real Finn at all. “You liked the dancing?”

My cheeks flame like a million suns–the memory of his body against mine is still fresh.

Finn grabs the handle, opens the door and gestures for me to slide in, but I just stand there, staring at him like an idiot.

My stomach dips when I realize how blessedly empty anddarkthe parking lot seems to be.

He stares at me; the smile dropping from his lips to be replaced by something else. It’s hard to make out what it is without any street lamps, but I decide to take my chances.

I toss my hat into the car and grab his shirt to drag him to me, pressing my lips firmly against his. Finn softens to the kiss, hishands coming to rest around the sides of my face, fingers in my hair.

It’s not enough. I only just met the guy, and I can’t get enough of him.

When we break apart, Finn keeps his face close. His chest heaves, and we both fight to catch our breath.
