When she shifts even closer, I plant a kiss on her shoulder, memorizing the feel of her tucked close–thinking of how much I’m going to miss her.

My arm wraps around her, thumb tucking beneath the fabric of her shirt, drawing slow circles against her stomach.

She places her hand over mine, her touch warm. When she presses back into me, everything tightens. My hand stops moving, and I gently press my hips forward, dragging a soft sound from her lips.

“Ellie,” I whisper, and her hand tightens over mine, slowly dragging it down her stomach, dipping beneath the waistband of her sleep shorts.

I groan, pressing my hips forward again as she meets the motion with her own.

“Remember what you said in the bathroom?” Her voice is soft like the skin beneath my fingertips.

“I thought maybe we’d press pause on that.” Butfuck.I don’t want to.

Ellis flips over, removing my hand from her and giving me a hard look. “Absolutely not, Griffin. You’re leaving for two weeks.”

I smile, bringing my palm up to up her cheek as I kiss her. “It’s Finn,” I say against her lips.

“Finn.” she corrects.

I carefully pull at the hem of her shirt, dragging it over her head when she leans up to help me. My own shirt is the next to go, followed by pants and underwear until we’re both stripped down and tangled together.

“I’m going to miss you,” she whispers, and it pulls at something in my chest.

I reach over to the nightstand, rolling on the condom before lining myself up with her. “I know,” I say, brushing a soft kiss to the corner of her mouth. “I’m going to miss you, too.”

This time, something shifts. It’s as if our own words linger in the air, hanging like stars above us–shining light on everything in the room.

It’s a truth that sounds louder than the worries of the coming weeks.

I’m in love with her.

Ellis stares at her phone as I drive through the short-term parking garage at the airport, unable to stop glancing over.

“What is it?” I ask.

Her brow furrows as she types a reply to whatever text she just got.

“Ellie?”

“Shush,” she scolds. “I can’t focus on you and type this at the same time.”

I huff a laugh, pulling into a parking lot near the entrance and shutting off the car.

When she’s done, she looks up at me. “B wants to meet before I have dinner with Adam. I’m a little nervous, but I don’t want to worry you.”

I reach across the console and thread my fingers through hers. “I’m not worried,” I say, a wide smile breaking across my face.

“Liar,” she says, her lips pulling up at one corner.

I lean in, tightening my grip on her hand. “Prove it,” I say, before planting a quick kiss to her mouth.

When we get out of the car, we walk toward the baggage check-in, and I’m thankful that the airport has switched over to kiosks instead of forcing everyone to talk to employees up front. For one, it goes way faster. For two, this flight is fucking early.

We walk hand in hand to the line for TSA, and I draw her to me, trying to memorize the feel of her. “It’s only two weeks,” I say.

She chuckles. “Yes, exactly. I’m not sure why you’re acting like you’re going off to war.”

“It could turn into more weeks if I do a decent enough job.”
