“Sandra?” I hear my name called through the apartment and I’m a little startled, as Otis begins to bark at the man he doesn’t like all that much. They’ve come to an understanding, and Dom has over alpha-ed Otis, but my dog is salty over it. We’ve been officially dating for six weeks, since the night he stalked my apartment after I went to dinner with Curtis.

“Guess what?” he calls, and the barking continues throughout the apartment. He appears at the entrance of my bathroom. I’m applying a little more mascara, after most of it has disappeared throughout the busy day.

“What?” I ask, but he leans in and gives me a kiss, tossing Otis’s favorite bone into the living room. The dog forgets about his newest foe and runs off to claim his prize.

“We’re going away for the weekend.”

I guess that’s why he called me last night at eleven and asked me what I was doing for the next couple of days.

“Oh, we are, are we?” I ask, and before I can object, Otis is back and chowing down on his bone as loud as he can.

“And don’t worry. Otis is coming with us.”

Fuck, my heart. If it hadn’t fallen for Dom at this point, it has just plummeted into the void.

“I love you.” My declaration exits my lips before I give it permission, and I slap my mouth with my hand, looking away as if I told him my deepest darkest secret. I begin to sweat, and my face heats. I can imagine it’s as red as my flaming hair.

His touch on my shoulder and his finger on my chin calms me.

“Rosso.” His voice is low, like it is when he commands me in the bedroom. “Look at me, baby,” he continues, and I avert my line of sight toward him, looking up over a few loose pieces of hair. He moves the curls away from my line of sight.

“Look at me.” It’s his command, and I obey. I love obeying him, and I do as he says.

“I love you too, Sandra McDonald. I love you so much.” He’s never lied to me in the past, so why would he start now? “I didn’t plan on expressing my love for you in the doorway of your bathroom, but it doesn’t matter. Anything with you is perfect, baby. Always perfect.”

He takes me in his arms, crashing his mouth to mine, sending spirals of desire and passion through my body. In each additional second of our kiss, he’s surprisingly gentle. The sensation of his lips against my neck and his slow, addicting kisses leave me burning with fire.

He pulls back, his breath labored and his erection tenting the zipper of his jeans. “Fuck, I want nothing more than to take you to bed and punish you with edging and every other thing to draw out the best fucking orgasm of your life, but I can’t. Later—it’s exactly what I’m going to do.”

He crosses the hall, and I watch as he pulls out my dresser drawers. “What are you doing?” I ask.

“I’m packing for you, baby. After all, I know where we’re going, and you don’t.”

“Fair enough.” I look at my reflection in the mirror, and the mascara is smudged, thanks to Dom and his addicting kisses. I wash off the parts making my eyes look like I’m a first cousin to a raccoon and start over.

“Swimsuits?” he asks.

“Bottom right. But don’t grab the purple one.”

“Okay.” And I begin to pack my toiletries.

“Otis, you ready to go on a trip?” I call down the hall, and he comes trotting over to me, standing on his hind legs and dancing. I realize my mistake. Every time I say trip, he thinks it means we’re going to Cami’s house.

“It’s a different trip, Otie Totie. We’re going bye-bye with Dom.” Otis harrumphs and returns to his bone, turning his back toward us.

“Watch it, Otis, I can leave you here!” Dom shouts down the hall, and Otis moves his attention toward his voice and begins to whine.

“I think that may be an apology, baby,” I explain.

He has a bag for me, and I’ve packed up my toiletries and makeup. “One last item to get ready,” he announces, moving my bags to the front of the apartment. “Ready to go bye-bye, Otis?”

I have his harness and leash by the time he comes to the couch and the dog is excitable as he attempts to help me, but it’s only causing problems. Once the harness that needs a degree in astrophysics to put it on is properly secured, we leave, shutting the door behind me. I trust him like no other, and I’m excited for a weekend away with this wonderful man and my baby boy.

DOMINIC

“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?” she asks, Otis asleep on her lap.
