“Yeah, you must have some super sperm or something. I don’t know, but yeah, when you knock me up, you do it with all your might.”

Fuck, I love this girl. I love her so much, and without thought, I say the only thing I can think of. “Marry me?”

Her green eyes don’t have the look of surprise. It’s like she’s been expecting me to ask her.

“What took you so long?” she questions, dropping a kiss on my nose. “And for the record, the answer is yes. Always yes with you, Dom.”

Somehow, after three days straight at the hospital, I talked Sandra into staying with her sister for the night. Cami and her whole crew are back in town for a week, especially since it is the week of Thanksgiving. And between me and Sandra’s persuasive twin, she didn’t stand a chance.

Garner promised not to leave my side, but somehow it means that Kayla is here too. It’s not that I don’t like Kayla, but the two of them together is exhausting. But she sits in the corner, reading a book, while Garner fills me in on the case, the murder of Nate Hollerman, and the attempted murder of Sandra. She was the target after all.

“It was something from aCopsepisode, man,” Garner begins. “After you were let go, and it was obvious you couldn’t have killed Nate, the detectives tried to question his cousin Trace. But they couldn’t find him. And because Sandra was pushed into traffic in front of the precinct, there was very clear footage. The sad son of a bitch isn’t too smart. From there, he confessed to pushing Sandra. He had a gun on him, too, andthe address of Matthias Hennessy in his pocket. He was so fucking unhinged, sounhinged, that he wasn’t going to stop until everyone that ruined his plan was no longer on this earth.”

Fuck, and to think I could have lost Sandra. “He’s not going anywhere, not for a long time. We have him dead to rights, bro.”

At least I know Sandra is safe. And our babies.

We haven’t told anyone, though my brother knows, and so does Jordan Peters, who took care of Sandra after she fainted. Nor does anyone know I asked her to marry me. We’re keeping it to ourselves until we have a chance to breathe after everything we’ve been through.

“Hey, boys, I’m going to head home and let you guys hang out.” Kayla leans over and kisses my cheek. “Fuck, you scared us. And poor Sandra. I love that girl. Don’t screw it up.”

She’s out of the room before I have a chance to process her words, and my eyes avert to Garner’s.

“When are you two going to put everyone out of their misery and admit that this thing with you is deeper than friendship? Hell, if I’ve learned anything, it’s that we’re not guaranteed tomorrow.”

“It’s in her hands, bro. You know Kayla. She’s a wild horse. There’s no taming her; she has to come willingly.” His smile continues to grow while speaking of Kayla and admitting what we’ve always known. He loves the girl. “Don’t tell another soul what I just said.”

I use my fingers to zip my lips, like I’d zip up my coat.

“And Sandra? What is going on with her?”

Thinking of Sandra makes me grin like a teenager with my first crush. “What can I say? She’s my forever.”

“And she knows this? Does she?” Garner asks.

I flip him off, the same silly grin on my face, and he has my answer.

Cami sentme a text explaining that Sandra was still sleeping, and she hated to wake her. I want her to sleep; truth be told, I want her as far away from the hospital and the memory of almost losing me.

Garner had to leave for a shift, but Jeremiah has assumed the role of caregiver, though, for fuck's sake, I'm at a hospital. I'm not left to my own accord.

He's leafing through a magazine, and I'm watching SportsCenter. There's nothing important in sports, though I’ll follow Chicago basketball. I'm mindlessly watching it when a knock startles Jeremiah and me from our boring peace and quiet.

A familiar face peers around the corner, along with another familiar face. "I'm sorry to barge in like this," Matthias Hennessy begins, "but I had to come by and see you. After all, we owe you our lives. The other partners wanted to come by too, but we thought it was too much."

Garner never told me if the lunatic Trace Hollerman had plans to hurt the other guys, but I wouldn't put it past him. He points to the man next to him. "Have you met my lawyer Curtis Shane before?" he asks. And I'd love to know what this fuck nut is doing here.

"Oh, we've met," I answer before Curtis can.

My reaction gets both Jeremiah’s and Matthias's attention. "There's a story there." Jeremiah doesn't turn around, but his comment is heard throughout the room.

"Good to see you again, Dom. I know you must hate me, but I always rooted for you and Sandra."

I'm still weak, but I let out a small laugh that hurts my entire body. "Are you sure you weren't hoping we'd fail, just a little?"

He shrugs his shoulders. "I'm a lawyer; I know when to plead the fifth, but seriously, she loves you. It was obvious that first night. And I'm happy for her and, in turn, you."

It doesn't explain why he's here, though. But he's not a dick like I assumed, holding a grudge that I got the girl. "Thanks for that. She makes me very happy too."
