A nagging memory reminds me of Lombardi’s reputation of untrustworthiness.

Antonio can easily see me as collateral.

I rush to the window overlooking the driveway when I hear movement outside the house. Antonio steps from his car and jerks someone from the backseat. I clutch my stomach as I watch him shove his gun against the back of a priest’s head while pushing him toward the porch.

It’s the same priest from Neomi and Benny’s wedding.

The one who ditched our asses and left us for dead.

I turn to look at Leo. “He kidnapped a fucking priest?”

Leo shrugs, not answering.

“What the hell?” I scream when Antonio enters the cabin with the priest.

Antonio nudges the priest forward into Leo’s waiting arms. “Watch him.”

Leo directs the priest toward a chair.

He trembles from head to toe while sitting down and then rubs the spot on his head where Antonio’s gun was.

Without saying a word, Antonio walks out of the cabin. I stand there, shuffling from one foot to the other, not knowing what to do. I glance at the priest apologetically when he whimpers. Leo rolls his eyes in annoyance.

Everyone’s attention shoots to Antonio when he returns, holding a shopping bag. He charges across the room, clamps his hand around mine, and jerks me down the hallway. I jump when he pushes me into a room and slams the door shut behind us.

He thrusts the bag into my arms. “Here.”

“Please don’t be an Elijah body part,” I whisper, gripping the side of the bag as if it holds a bomb. “Please don’t be an Elijah body part.” I hold in a breath while sinking my hand inside.

The first item I pull out is a lacy bone-colored veil.

Weird.

The second … a long white dress.

“What the …” I run my fingers over the silk before raising my gaze to Antonio’s.

He clutches his hand over mine on the dress and squeezes it. His touch shouldn’t be as comforting as it is.

“Don’t worry, princess,” he says in an unapologetic tone. “You can choose your dress at our next wedding.”

Reality crashes through me.

The wedding dress.

Veil.

Priest.

Oh my fucking God.

This bastard just keeps getting crazier.

“Are you nuts?” I drop the dress and veil on the bed. “I’m not marrying you.”

When I attempt to rush past him and leave the room, he snatches my elbow. I try to remove his hand while he spins me around to face him.

“Youaremarrying me.” He squeezes my elbow. “Now, put on the dress.”
