“I get them when I’m stressed and mentally struggling,” I continue.

“Stressed?” He runs his hand over my hair. “Why are you stressed?”

Even though he can’t see my face, I glare at him.

“You know I’d never hurt you.”

“You already have,” I say.

“I brought you here for your safety.”

“And the forced marriage?”

“Toprotect you.”

I lift my head to smack his shoulder. “Don’t bullshit me, Antonio. You did it to have leverage over my father, so he’ll help you with the waryour familystarted. Our nuptials were born from your desperation, not your love or desire toprotectme.” The reality is bitter as it leaves my tongue, and I fall onto my back.

He props himself on his elbow, staring down at me. “Don’t fucking act like you mean nothing to me, Giana.”

“I amnothingbut your prisoner. Yourforcedwife.” My voice turns spiteful. “The exact thing I was never supposed to become.”

“The first time you allowed me to taste you was the day you becamemine. Just like I became yours.”

“How convenient you did nothing about it until it benefited you.”

“Sonny wants to kill you.”

“My father will keep me safe.”

“How did that go for Natalia and Neomi? I won’t risk something happening to you—kidnapping, rape, murder. I’ll make sure a man dies before even getting close to you. Like I told you last night, I will always keep you safe and lay down my life for yours.”

“Oh, yes, thank you for the reminder that you killed my fiancé.”

“Like you’d have ever actually married Elijah.” He says his name with disdain.

“He would’ve given me apeacefulmarriage.”

“Our marriage will be peaceful.”

I slap the mattress. “You’re literally holding me hostage in the middle of who the fuck knows where. That’s far from peaceful. As soon as I get out of here, I’ll annul this sham of a marriage.”

I gasp when he rolls over, shifting his weight to his knees, and straddles me.

His fingers clasp around my throat, constricting my airflow. “One thing that’ll never leave this sweet mouth is that you’llannulour marriage or divorce me.” His grip tightens. “I’ll be your husband today, tomorrow, until you draw your last breath. If you ever think of marrying another man, I’ll drop his corpse at the mansion’s doorstep.”

“Then I’ll find another husband.” My answer comes out strained in his hold.

“And he’ll pay for that with his life.” He lowers his head until his lips hover above mine as I suck in air. “Every single one will die.”

He’s so deranged.

And it’s hot as hell.

He inhales sharply as if drawing in those short breaths I’m managing.

I grab his wrist, my nails digging into his skin, and he allows me to pull his hand away. “You wouldn’t dare.”

“Oh, princess.” His laugh is demented. “I’ll serve their dismembered limbs to you on a platter at your favorite restaurant. Don’t fucking test me on that.”
