“Dante tried to keep it from her, but she knew something was eating at him. So he told her. She gifted me a bottle of bourbon and a thank-you letter for it.”

That explains my intuition about her. She’s strong, resilient, and now, I understand why.

Even though I complain about it, I’ve lived a privileged life. Some women, like Eden, weren’t fortunate enough to have that luxury. I wish I could go to her bedroom and hug her, but Dante would definitely throw my ass out and ban me from their house.

Antonio unbuttons his shirt, allowing it to drop to the floor. “Were you good today?”

My mouth waters at the view of his bare chest, and I rub my thighs together. I roam my gaze down his chest.

Abs so sleek that they could cut glass.

A chest as smooth as marble.

I want to run my tongue down his stomach, tease him as he does me, and then pleasure him with my mouth again.

I perk up and cup my face while cheerfully grinning. “I was a good little hostage.”

“That means I must keep my word.” He steps to the bed, helps me out of it, and then strips my pajamas off on our walk to the bathroom.

Then he rewards me for being his good little hostage, just like he said he would.

I’ve trailed enough people to know when someone is following me. I sense him growing closer with each step I take.

He won’t kill me.

Not yet at least.

He needs something from me first.

I wait until we reach the back alley of Viego’s Sandwich Shop and grip my pistol inside my waistband when turning around. The sun setting and the flickering sidewalk light limit my view of him.

“Don’t you ever doubt my ability to find someone,” Cristian says, standing inches away from me. He slowly withdraws a Glock with a silencer on the end from his black peacoat.

“You’ve been on my tail all day.” I remain straight-faced while keeping a level tone. “And considering you didn’t immediately put a bullet in my head means you won’t.”

I left before Gigi woke up again this morning, but I plan on coming home to her tonight. Which means I need to persuade her father not to blow my brains out. The moment I realized he was following me, I knew I wouldn’t return to Dante’s until he was gone. No way am I leading him straight to her.

“Where’s Gigi?” He stands in a wide stance.

“Safe,” I reply, maintaining my composure.

He keeps his gun raised. “Where exactly is safe?”

“You know I won’t tell you that.”

He plants the gun against my skull, but I don’t move, blink, nothing. “Give me a fucking address, Lombardi.”

I inhale a deep breath. “Are you really going to shoot your son-in-law?”

He adds tension to the gun, tightens his grip on the handle, and snarls, “You forced her hand, motherfucker.”

“I might’ve forced her hand, but had you given Gigi her freedom, we’d have married a long time ago.” I tsk. “How do you think Gigi contacted me so easily when Natalia went missing? You don’t know the extent of my history with your daughter, so I’m asking for your trust.”

“I don’t trust anyone.”

“Gigi is smart. If she were in true danger, don’t you think she’d have figured out a way to escape me? Once Sonny is dead, I’ll release her. Then you and I can return to being on good terms.”
