Leo rolls their luggage down the hallway, and Clara takes hers before walking to her wing of the house. As Antonio takes Amara’s, she flops down on the couch. Damien snags the remote and turns on cartoons.

“Watch a movie with me, Gigi.” Amara taps the cushion next to her.

I nod, and a flicker of a smile plays at Antonio’s lips when I join her. She scoots closer when I sit down.

She doesn’t last a good ten minutes before she dozes off, snoring louder than the TV. Damien leaves, and I watch the TV until Antonio comes in, asking if I want takeout for dinner. We order Chinese, eat in the kitchen, and then I shower while he gets Amara ready for bed.

As I walk past Amara’s bedroom toward the kitchen, I pause when I hear her ask Antonio, “Are you in love with Gigi, Daddy?”

I flatten my back against the wall and press my hand against my chest, waiting for his response.

“Yes, sweetie. I’m in love with her.”

“I’m in love with her.”

Words I never thought I’d hear a man say.

I was the Mafia princess, trapped in the castle, destined to have a lonely future.

But then my brooding prince came.

He didn’t care about the danger.

The risk of death.

He only cared about me.

It might be a dark version, but this girl is living her own fairy tale.

“Can you and Gigi have babies so I can have a baby brother or sister?” she asks, almost sounding pleading.

“I sure hope so,” he replies.

My body feels lighter as I exhale a deep breath and walk away. The last thing I want is for Antonio to think I’m eavesdropping on them.

I mean, technically, I was.

But for a good cause, obvi.

When I enter the kitchen for a drink, I find Clara pouring steaming water into a mug.

“Tea?” she asks, returning the teapot to the stove.

“Sure.”

“Is lavender okay?”

“That’ll help me sleep, so absolutely.”

She retrieves a mug from the cabinet, lowers a tea bag into it, and adds water.

“How’s your sister?”

“Better. I keep telling her to take her diabetes seriously, but she can’t stay away from Reese’s Cups.”

“I mean, Reese’s Cups are pretty good.” I smile at her.

She chuckles. “That’s why I confiscated all of hers—forhealth reasons, of course—and brought them home with me. I made sure to replace them with sugar-free ones though.”
