“She needs more than that.” I motion between us. “Father to father, I know you feel the pain of losing Gigi. Don’t let too much time pass. The longer it does, the more damage it inflicts.” I jerk my head toward the photos. “You can keep those.”

I turn and leave his office.

While Monster Marchetti gives no fucks about hurting people, Gigi doesn’t fall in that category. The same with Natalia.

It’s the same situation with Benny. He isn’t sparing my life out of kindness. He’s afraid of losing his sister if he acts on his anger.

But the Marchetti men know she’s safe with me. Deep down, if they thought I was a threat to her safety, they’d slaughter me, not caring if she hated them for it. There’s no way in hell Cristian would’ve let her come to me if he didn’t trust I’d put my life on the line for her.

And just like them, I won’t kill them because I love her. I don’t want a war with the Marchettis. I hope we can go back to how things were before Vinny’s antics. When we coexisted in the same city with no animosity.

ONE WEEK LATER

I grab my phone and text Natalia.

Me: Hurry up and get here!

She and Enzo are coming over today. I can’t wait to introduce them to Amara and Clara. Natalia has been on my father’s ass to visit me, but he continues to refuse.

He was persistent that I see them at the mansion.

To which I refused.

No way am I giving him the opportunity to hold me hostage there.

But surprisingly, yesterday, he agreed.

That, or Natalia threatened him with divorce.

Natalia: Be there soon! Enzo needed a last-minute diaper change.

Five minutes later, the doorbell rings, and I dash down the hallway to answer.

The door swings open, but it’s not Natalia.

I stand face-to-face with my father.

There’s a moment of hesitation.

Confusion.

Either he killed Antonio’s men at the gate or someone gave him access.

And from how everything is calm, I’m guessing the latter.

“Gigi,” he says before stepping forward and squeezing me tight in his arms.

I press my face into his shoulder as the tears come within seconds.

Does this mean he’s back in my life?

Or is this a onetime thing?

Either way, he’s here now, and I’ve missed him so much.

He might have a heart of stone, but little do people know, there are a few hidden pockets where it beats with warmth. Even though I moved into a new home, that doesn’t stop me from missing the comfort of the first.
