Villain: Come outside.

No freaking way.

He’s messing with me.

I grip the phone as if it held my future, waiting for it to vibrate again.

Nothing.

Sighing, I toss it next to me. It bounces off the mattress and vibrates again simultaneously.

I leap across the bed to catch it.

Villain: Don’t ignore me.

I hit the Reply button.

Me: Don’t play games with me.

Villain: Come outside and make sure no one sees you.

“I will find you, princess.”

Aunt Aida’s village is private and nowhere near a city. No one has ever hunted me down here. Antonio has better odds of finding a leprechaun at the end of a rainbow.

That still doesn’t stop me from jumping out of bed and walking to the double French doors. I peel back the curtain, peeking outside before cautiously stepping onto the terrace. I clutch a hand to my chest, searching the area, and someone steps into my view.

My calmness surprises me, and I don’t scream for Bruno. I stand there, frozen, as the person comes closer. It’s dark, but I’ll always know his stature.

Antonio stands in front of me, in the flesh, confirming he most definitely found me.

I launch forward to grab his elbow. “Are you fucking crazy? Bruno will kill you.”

The man has ears like a hawk.

“Do you think I care?” Antonio asks indifferently.

“Not only will he kill you, but my father will also figure out a way to resurrect you so he can kill you again.”

“I waited until everyone’s lights were off.”

“How long were you waiting out there?”

He checks his watch. “A few hours.”

“Stalker.” I raise my hand on his elbow to smack his shoulder.

“It seems if I want to see you, I must resort to stalking.” He tips his chin toward the doors—a silent demand for us to move our conversation inside.

I bite my tongue.

Inviting him in is a big deal.

In horror movies, they always say, don’t invite a vampire inside your home. This is for sure the equivalent.

Even though I somewhat trust Antonio, I still question his motives. His family can use him as the perfect pawn to destroy mine.

Charm the Mafia king’s daughter.
