I scoff. “Have you met Benny Marchetti? He’s just as much of a psychopath as Cristian. He will slaughter everyone involved in his father’s murder.”
He nods in agreement.
“If anything happens to me, you remember where to take Amara?”
“Don’t say shit like that, Antonio.”
“Promise me, Damien.”
He looks me in the eye. “I’d give my life for that little girl. I’ll always get her to safety.”
He and Clara are the only ones who know my evacuation plan if anything happens to me. There’s only one place they’ll remain safe, one person who can easily hide them.
I’m worried I’ll have to use that plan soon. Vinny shared information with Natalia he shouldn’t have, and now, Cristian is using that against us.
All actions Vinny should’ve died for, yet my father failed to reprimand him.
Because of that, he believes he can get away with anything.
But not this. No, he signed his death certificate.
And I no longer care to help him out of it.
He’s on his own.
Now, we have to wait for everything to implode.
THREE WEEKS LATER
I’m shocked when the burner rings.
Today, for some reason, I slid it into my pocket before leaving for the casino.
Juggling paperwork, I balance the phone between my ear and shoulder to answer. “The princess has called.”
“Where is she, Antonio?” Gigi yells. Her voice trembles before sobs break free.
I stop, losing my place in the papers. “Who?”
“Don’t bullshit me.”
“I’m not bullshitting you.”
“Your piece-of-shit brother teamed up with Rocky and kidnapped Natalia.” Her tone hardens, the sobs turning into anger. “I’ll never forgive you for this.”
“Gigi, I promise you, I don’t know where she is.”
“Start arranging your brother’s funeral, Antonio. And that’sifmy father is even generous enough to give you his body.”

All I can do is sit and pray Natalia doesn’t die. I’m in Aunt Aida’s kitchen with her and Bruno, drinking latte after latte while anxiously awaiting updates.
My father and his men are skilled in finding people, but time is of the essence here.
