“I’m just happy you had a nice time.” My words are as awkward as they are choppy, but at the same time, Delaney doesn’t seem to care.

Instead, she’s back to torturing me with that smile, letting out a soft sigh as she plays with the keys in her hands. “I did….” She sinks her hooks that much deeper into me as she again subtly bites down on her bottom lip. “Withyou.”

My. Heart. Stops.

All the oxygen leaves the hallway. I can’t breathe. She’s making it impossible.

I nod subtly—unsure of what else I can do. I need to leave. I have to. But I can’t bring myself to move my feet away from her. I’ll be glued to this spot forever.

“I guess we’d better call it a night then?” Her words are less than convincing as she looks up at me with her big eyes, the same look that I knew would drive me insane the moment I first saw her. “Mind passing me my bag?”

I hadn’t realized her bags were still clutched beneath my grasp, holding on ever so tightly—just like I am to this conversation. I don’t want it to end.

“Shit, yeah.” I hand the first one over to her, my throat dry as I speak. She extends her hand out to reach for it, but her pitiful attempt to clutch onto the handle transpires into much more. Now, her fingertips more than just brush over my skin, they fully encapsulate my hand.

As if we’re working in sync, we both stare down at our hands before our eyes find each other yet again.

I’d always known it, but looking at her right now, there isn’t a sliver of doubt. She is the most beautiful woman in the world. I’m certain of it as much as I’m certain I can’t hold back from her a second longer.

“Allow yourself to accept that love, dear. And do yourself a favor. Start to show it.”

I let go of my hesitation almost as quickly as I drop her bags to the ground, and before I can comprehend my actions, I pinned her up against the wall, clenching her wrists between my hands as my lips crash into hers.

Almost as if she anticipated it—craved it—she accepts my embrace and immediately pushes herself closer to me, pressing her body up against mine and causing me to let out a shaky breath against her lips.

God, I’ve needed this for so long. And now that I’ve had a taste of temptation, I can't comprehend how I’ve been able to hold out this whole time.

Now we start to move as one, a soft moan escaping her lips is all she needs to do in order to tell me she’s wantedthisjust as badly as I’ve wanted her. “Warren,” I hear her mumble softly, making little attempt to pull away from my lips as she speaks. My name is like heaven as it falls out of her mouth and into my own.

The sound of her whispering my name as she grinds herself into me is enough to push me over the edge. Finally, I lift her in the air, securing my grip around her tight waist as her firm hips press against my core, and she wraps her legs around me effortlessly. It’s like she was made to cling against me.

“Fuck,” is all I can force myself to say, biting down on her bottom lip ever so gently. That’s all I can think to say. She’s absolutely all-consuming.

“Come,” she whispers breathlessly, yet it’s enough to tell me she wants to take this as far as I’m willing to go. She can hardly finish her words before I continue kissing her again with a heightened sense of anticipation. “C’mon…” Her tongue dances on mine, reaching for my belt, desperate to undress me. “Let’s go inside.”

And with that simple, formidable action, the reality of what caving into this temptation has gotten me into starts to sink in.

Fuck.

No.

No, no, no.

I can’t do this. I refuse to do this. I have to stop. I need to stop.

I pull back harshly, causing her breath to hitch as her eyes meet mine—now electrified with a sense of sexual desire. It was a look I’d seen before, but one I hadn’t realized I’d starved for so badly.

I gently place her down and take a reluctant step back, gliding the back of my hand along my mouth as if to rid myself of her taste, despite knowing it has the power to linger for a lifetime.

“Hey, are you okay?” She attempts to break the space I’ve created between the two of us as her hand cascades down my arm. “Why did you stop?”

“Delaney, I…” My voice trails off. The wrenching feeling of pulling away from her is almost as painful as it was resisting her. But as she peers into my eyes, I’m reminded of everything this girl stands for.

The reason why she’s here in the first place.

The one person who I swore I’d never let down.

Ira.
