She bites her bottom lip, releasing it with a smile.

“Guess you better get going.”

Mia stares at me for what feels like an eternity but eventually, she gets to her feet. She glances at me once over her shoulder before disappearing into the darkness at the top of the stairs.

My stomach sinks when I climb the stairs and see her again.

“Hope it’s not a dealbreaker for you.”

She’s looking inside Luke’s room, hand on the doorframe. Never told her about him. I’d been so caught up in Mia that he slipped my mind. I feel sick not letting her know. For forgetting someone so important. My life…

She turns. “As long as I’m not the other woman.”

I shake my head. “You’re my only woman.”

“Then it’s not a dealbreaker.”

And once again, Mia surprises me.

I close the gap between us, capturing her lips all over again, savoring her taste, my tongue fucking her hot mouth. She drapes her arms around my neck and then leaps into the air, wrapping her legs around my waist as I carry her to our room. Our. Room. I’m already thinking about it.

“Fucking gorgeous,” I rasp, kissing her neck as we stumble around the dark hallway, knocking things off the wall and landing table. “Fucking perfect,” I growl, sinking my teeth gently into her shoulder. “Fucking fuck!”

I step on one of Luke’s Lego pieces and fall to the ground like a bag of bricks, slamming my shoulder as I turn and take the full force of the fall.

“What happened?” Mia asks, running her hands all over me as I grimace.

“Lego” I rasp.

“Oh, yeah. I’m sorry,” she says, taking her hands off me and backing away.

I shake my head, gritting out, “Lego. Not let go.”

Mia’s touch is the only thing keeping me together through the pain. Can’t remember the last time I cried, but I’d be lying if I wasn’t holding back a few tears. Stepping on one of these suckers is next-level torture.

Mia snorts softly and when I open my eyes, she’s sucked in her lips, biting down as she tries not to laugh.

“Is my misery funny?”

She shakes her head no. “I’m sorry,” she says, stroking my cheek. “Let me see.”

She swallows, doing her best to hide the smile. I don’t mind though. It’s a little ridiculous that something no bigger than the pad of my thumb can take me down so efficiently.

“Probably still embedded in my foot.”

Mia nods and then slides off me, her hands searching my feet a few moments later. I groan when she pulls it away, shaking my head when she holds the culprit in front of my eyes.

“Found it.”

“Thanks.”

“Still hurt?”

I nod. “A little.”

“I’ve got something that can fix that. On the bed,” she says before kissing me gently.

I savor her taste on my lips as she moves toward the bed, looking every bit like an angel in the moonlight.
