I’m holding onto Wyatt as he drives into me like a man possessed. This is not how I expected to lose my virginity. I thought it would be awkward and unfulfilling.

This is explosive. Remarkable. Unforgettable.

“Come for me, Mia. Come for me so I can. Fucking so tight, sweet girl. My girl. Mine.”

Something inside me snaps. The possessive sound of his voice, his words, something causes a break inside. A dam releases and pleasure like I’ve never experienced before rocks through me.

“Fffuuuuck,” Wyatt moans as I feel his entire body become rigid. “Ffffucking coming,” he growls as he continues to pump, grunting like a damn animal. In and out. I swear I’m going in and out of consciousness as my brain has no idea how to react to what Wyatt’s doing to my body.

A few minutes later, we’re both panting and unable to move or speak. But then I start laughing. I have no idea where it comes from but I full-on belly laugh, and it hurts with Wyatt on top of me.

“What’s funny?”

“I don’t know,” I answer truthfully as I try to catch my breath. “I don’t know what to think.”

“Then don’t think,” Wyatt says, kissing me. “Just be with me.”

I smile against his lips. “I think I can do that.”

He slides off of me and then wraps his arms around me, holding me against his body, comforting me in a way I’ve never felt before. Protected and cared for. Everything feels right.

But as he holds me, the thoughts begin to creep in, little by little. This moment can’t last forever. And it’s only a matter of time before the delicate string holding us together unravels.

Chapter 9

Wyatt

“I love you,” I say, kissing Mia’s hand.

She smiles, blushes, and then shakes her head as she stares out of the window. “I’m not sure I’m going to get used to hearing that.”

“I’ll be telling you every day until you get used to it. Until it sinks in that you’re the only one for me.”

She turns back to me, leans forward, and then kisses my hand, eyes trained on mine.

“Gorgeous,” I rasp, staring at her until I have to force myself to look back at the road.

I can only risk brief glimpses of Mia because I need to stay sharp on the way back to Reid’s cabin. It’s dark on these old mountain roads. Animals wandering at odd points. Downed limbs or boulders. There are any number of hazards that can find their way onto the roads, and I don’t want to risk Mia’s safety.

And if I keep staring, we may not make it up the mountain. Might have to pull the truck over and make her mine all over again. I let out a deep sigh. Mia’s mine. I’ve staked my claim, and now it’s time to let the rest of the world know, starting with Damon.

He’d blown up both of our phones. It wasn’t supposed to take very long to pick Mia up from the Inn, but things happened. Multiple times. They kept happening because neither of us could keep our hands off of each other. And if I had my way, I’d still be exploring Mia’s body.

But after Damon warned us that he’d be rushing down to the Inn if we didn’t respond, we had to end our little fantasy. Postpone it, really, because there won’t be an end to this. I found my soulmate, and I’m never letting her go.

“How do you think Damon will take it?” Mia asks.

I bite the inside of my mouth. Haven’t given it much thought because no matter the reaction, the result won’t change. I’d like Damon’s blessing, but I’m not begging for it. He knows me. The kind of man I am. And I don’t think he’d be opposed.

“We’ll find out soon enough. I’m talking with him in the morning.”

“So soon?”

“I’d tell him now if I wasn’t sure he was asleep.”

It’s after midnight. Reid and Daisy put Luke to bed along with Oink. Apparently, he made a friend with one of the pups Daisy and Reid are fostering. They’re inseparable or so Reid told me… at Luke’s behest.

That kid knows how to wear me down. I don’t mind though. The pup can come home with us so long as he keeps the floors clean of those damn Lego bricks.
