A few texts with Adan and Blaze on the way told me that June got to class safely as well. We would be rotating on who would be walking Karelis day by day, but one of us would always be with her.

I stopped and plopped down on a bench outside of my classroom building. My thoughts were entirely too overwhelming to go into class. Karelis had given us so much information about herself. She came from a place I’d never even heard of. Not that I was a shifter history buff but an entire kingdom we’d never heard of.

Truth was, I wanted to know who they were because the first thing I would do was to find out who this person was who had told my mate thousands of lies.

A kingdom that tried to somehow strip her of one of her wolves and make her run for her life.

Fate had a way, of course. Because Karelis had run from them and right into our arms, but still, I wondered what else they were doing to their subjects.

I picked my phone out of my pocket and called my dad. He and I were strained due to our disagreement about my future and who I would be, but if I needed help, he would be there. Especially if he found out I had a mate.

“Casimir, is something wrong?” My father answered my phone calls that way instead of the regular hello or anything else. He thought if someone called him, then that meant there was a problem.

“I don’t think so but I have a question,” I said.

“Shoot. I have training soon.”

“Dad, I wanted to know if you’ve ever heard of the Light Kingdom? It’s a hidden shifter pack?”

I heard his chair squeak as he leaned back. He was in his office. “I don’t know anything about a Light Kingdom. Never heard of it.”

“My mate is from the Light Kingdom.”

Another squeak, this time more violent. I knew the news would shock him. “A mate. Wait until your mother hears.”

We shared a laugh. It had been years since we shared anything other than a stern discussion. “She’s incredible, Dad. Can you look into this Light Kingdom for me?”

“I can, son. Expect a call from your mother. She’s going to drill you about this new mate.”

I hung up and found myself content. He was happy for me.

And having Karelis in my life made me more than ecstatic.

Chapter Five

Karelis

The guys walked me to my room after dinner, and June gave us all a minute. Of course, Adan, Blaze, and Cas took that minute to pout and tempt me to go back to their room, but I passed, telling them I needed to study. I didn’t want to, but I had to keep my place here.

I had two reasons now. Well, technically four reasons, but they took up three.

June and I sat on the floor of our room, quizzing each other on things for a test that week, since we had a few of the same classes but not at the same time, and snacking on stolen chips from the dining hall.

“I’m gonna get to bed,” she said after a while. “My brains are getting mushy.”

I laughed. “I think I need to go for a run.”

“Oh, a run? Are we playing that game now? Does your run involve three hot guys?” I barely contained my growl. This was June—she wasn’t after my men.

My men? Is that how I thought about them now?

I shook my head. “Really. I’m going for a run but yeah, they would probably handcuff themselves to me if I dared go without them.”

“Oh, handcuffs. Nice.”

I threw my arms in the air. Ever since I told June about the Three Kings, thinking they were my mates, every sentence was turned dirty—courtesy of my best friend. She cracked me up and kept things light even though there was so much conversation around us about Daniel’s incident and everyone on a tighter curfew. “I hate to leave you alone.”

She snorted. “All of the attacks have been out in the common area. I promise to stay in my room like a good girl and lock the door.”
