I huddled Noah’s duvet around me as I waited. “Can you… can you get me a hoodie, too?”

“Sure thing,” he said through the walls.

He reappeared holding a stack of dark, bundled fabric. “It might be a tad big on you—”

“Perfect. I want to be warm and cozy.”

“—and I got you something, too. I hope it’s not too weird.”

I furrowed my brow. “What is it?”

Sam’s cheeks pinked, but then he quickly smirked and straightened his posture. “Just… something because you kept coming over. Honestly, I wanted to entice you to stay the night.”

I took the bundle from his outstretched arms and pawed through it. His Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt rested on top, then a bulky hoodie, and underneath that—

A black bra and panties.

I held up the bra with wonder. “It’s… it’s in my size…”

Sam shrugged. “I felt guilty after I ripped your dress that one time. So I made a point to get you a change of clothes to keep in my closet—just in case you needed it. There’s yoga pants too.”

“But… how did you know my size?”

He bit his lip. “Remember that time we hooked up in the living room and Noah walked in on us?”

“Oh God—”

“It’s funny now, isn’t it?” he said, smoothing his hair. “But if you remember, I took off your bra and tossed it into the dark.”

Heat flooded into my cheeks. “Yeah, I remember.”

“Then you took a nap on the couch. Well, while you were sleeping, I thought it would be nice if you stayed the night. Like I’m always trying to get you to do.”

A shy smile spread across my face. “Yes.”

“And I thought, ‘How do I make Grace as comfortable as possible to stay the night here? How do I make her feel safe?’Then it came to me: clothes.”

I watched him explain all of this to me with wonder. It was such a simple, thoughtful gesture, but no one had ever done something like that for me.

“So, while you napped, I found your bra in the corner and took pictures of the tags. I did the same with your shirt and your jeans, but I didn’t know how tight you wanted them to sit on your body, and I want you to be comfortable when you’re over here. So, I just got you some yoga pants instead.” He paused, then ran his fingers through his hair. “I know women like yoga pants.”

My hand went to my mouth and hot tears seared the corners of my eyes.

Sam’s eyes widened. “Shoot, did I do something wrong?”

“N-no,” I said. “The opposite. You’re so… sothoughtful!”

“Okay, so, this wasn’t coming on too strong?”

“No,” I said, wiping my tears away. “It’s perfect.”

Sam kneeled in front of me and looked directly into my eyes. “No, Grace.You’reperfect.”

Noah got out of the car first and opened my door for me.

I stepped out of Sam’s Audi and the cool evening air tousled my damp, freshly showered hair. I huddled into Sam’s hoodie.
