Gathering up the group, Ice guided them back toward where he’d parked. Azrael seemed fascinated by Grit and vice versa, so Ice handed the leash to the boy. The twin didn’t smile, but Ice hoped that one day he would. Apollo was very protective of his twin and slung an arm around the slighter boy’s shoulders as they walked, and Ice did the same with Echo. Cash brought up the rear.

The morning breakfast and work traffic had started and that brought out more people and bigger crowds.

That meant better cover for them within the city.

Turning the corner, Ice pulled everyone to a stop before they could take a step farther.

Echo jerked Apollo to a stop, which brought Azrael standing still.

“What is it?” Cash asked. Fear had thickened the boy’s voice.

“I don’t like the look of things,” Ice said flatly and urged them back around the corner. “Did you see them?”

“Yes.” Echo’s gaze was fierce.

Somehow, Solomon’s men had found his vehicle.

Assassins were tricky like that.

“What now?” Azrael whispered, clutching at Grit’s leash.

“Are we going to run?” Cash asked, glancing around.

“No, we don’t run. Ice is going to call someone to come and get us,” Echo said.

“Why don’t we just kill them?” Azrael said as if that was regular old conversation to have on the streets and Echo’s heart fucking hurt. The younger twin reminded him so much of himself at that age.

A couple passing by shot them a few concerning looks and Echo closed his eyes. Could shit get any more complicated?

“He’s just joking. We don’t kill plants,” Ice told the couple, patting Azreal on the head.

The pair smiled and continued on their way.

“Oh my god, can you be any more obvious?” Cash glared at Azrael.

“Yeah, bro,” Apollo said. “What happened to your training?”

Azrael tore away from his brother. “Screw you both!” Dropping Grit’s leash, the slender boy spun wildly around, much like a dancer would, and sprinted down the sidewalk.

He didn’t get far.

Azrael crashed into Real.

Rather than let the boy go, Real hefted Azrael over one shoulder.

Ice tightened his arm around Echo’s suddenly tense shoulders. “That’s Real, he’s with us on this,” Ice murmured and Echo nodded and relaxed.

“You guys ready?” Real said and smacked a hand on Azrael’s butt when the boy wiggled.

“Are we ever!” Ice wasn’t going to laugh and he caught ahold of Apollo when he looked like he wanted to kill Real.

“Easy,” Ice whispered next to Apollo’s ear. “He’s with us. He’s also a military assassin.”

Apollo froze, blinked, and then licked his lips with a nod. Cash walked up and slung his arm around the twin’s shoulder and Ice picked up Grit’s leash and then pulled Echo close again.

“Well, nothing like a bit of family drama,” Echo said, sliding his arm around his waist.

“We taking them home?” He quirked a curious look down into Echo’s upturned face.
