Then I catch sight of Craig by the bar downing drink after drink. An idea sparks in my mind.

“I know that look,” Tarek murmurs, a smile making its way onto his lips. “You’ve got a plan. What is it?”

I turn my attention back to Craig, a small smile of my own forming. “Oh, just that tonight might not be a total loss after all.”

Craig seems determined to drown his frustrations in alcohol, and it isn’t long until he’s completely wasted. That’s when I make my move.

Pickpocketing was the first thing I learned as a thief, so swiping his phone is almost too easy. Stealing away into one of the dark corners I scouted out earlier, I start looking through his phone for anything worthwhile.

For the most part, it’s clean of anything damning, but there’s one thing that could still be of use. His contact list. If he planned to meet up with the spy tonight, he’d want an alternative way to contact them.

I copy over all of his contacts and then make my way back to the main room. Craig is ordering yet another drink while chatting up everyone at the bar. Passing by him, I slip the phone right back into his pocket. He doesn’t even so much as flinch.

Tarek raises a brow as I saunter back to his side. “So, what did you do exactly?”

I give him a coy smile. “Oh, you know, just swiped his phone and copied over all of his contacts. I figure he must have the spy’s number if he wants to talk to them. Now we just have to see if any of them match someone we know.”

Tarek grins. “Very clever.”

There’s a familiar heat in his eyes, and my heart beats a little faster. The way he looks at me sometimes makes me wish he’d just pull me into his arms and kiss me right then and there.

He moves closer to me, and I swallow hard and try not to lean closer to him. His hand brushes against mine. “Sloane, would you like to leave with me?”

I should say no. Especially since I know it’s not just his body I want. But something about this wonderful, intelligent man makes me want to throw all caution to the wind.

“Yes.”

CHAPTER 19

Tarek

Sloane and I head back to my place quickly with a growing eagerness. I think we both know what we want. At least I do. Ever since I laid eyes on her, there's been something there. Something that draws me to her.

Sloane takes my hand in hers and pulls me to the front door. Once we're inside, I kick it closed and take her into my arms.

"I love you, Sloane," I murmur as her mouth finds mine.

She freezes as if she wasn't expecting me to say that. But then with a wispy breath, her mouth curves into a smile.

"I love you, too, Tarek," she whispers.

The smile on her face is radiant, and she looks absolutely thrilled. Her joy is contagious and I'm happy simply because she's happy. That's a unique feeling for me.

Our bodies melt into each other, the heat of desire and anticipation melting through us. Sloane's hands find their way to the buttons of my shirt, fingers trembling with eagerness as they undo them one by one. The sound of fabric tearing apart fills the room, a metaphor for the barriers crumbling between us.

Her full lips taste like cinnamon as she purrs. I groan back a response, cradling the back of her neck in my hand.

“Tarek,” she whispers.

I take it as an invitation, slipping my tongue inside her parted mouth while cupping her toned and generous backside.

I guide her towards the couch, our lips never parting, the feel of her driving me wild with longing. We fall onto the soft cushions, limbs tangled and hearts pounding in unison. With every touch and every caress, it's as if we're learning each other's bodies for the first time, unraveling secrets only meant for us to share.

Sloane's breath hitches as I trace kisses along her neck, a trail of fire that ignites her skin. Her nails dig into my back, leaving marks that will surely fade, but memories that will last forever.

With a gentle hand, I cup her face and look into her eyes, searching for any hesitation or doubt. But all I find is unwavering trust and a hunger that matches my own.

In one swift motion, I lift Sloane off the couch and carry her towards the bedroom. For the first time, I curse my extraordinarily large house, wondering why the bed has to seem so far away. Finally, we stumble onto the bed, our bodies urgently seeking each other's embrace.
