The former quickly nods and shows his sweet and prickly smile. I find myself smiling with him.

“Thank you both. You’re the best,” I say.

The next person I need to see is Angel. She might be harder to convince for obvious reasons. Despite us always butting heads, I still owe her an apology.

She’s in her office as usual, going over some paperwork. She glances up at me before returning her eyes to the papers.

“Can I come in?” I ask at the doorway.

“Depends on what you need,” she says nonchalantly.

I can’t tell whether she’s upset or her usual self, so I take the liberty to sit down. She stops reading through the papers and leans back on her chair.

“Well?” she asks, rolling her neck.

“I just wanted to apologize for the way I acted these days. I was going through some things, but I know that’s not an excuse to act coldly towards you or anyone here. I hope you can forgive me, Angel.”

She sighs. “Honestly, I’m surprised you’d even apologize to me. Considering I’m always hard on you. Thought you already had enough of me.”

I laugh. “Of course not. You’re a pain in the ass, but I wouldn’t have any other way.”

Angel fiddles with a pen. “Is everything fine with you then?”

I nod. “I think so.”

“Then I expect you to get back to work quickly,” she orders, but there’s a fleeting smile that tells me she’s just joking.

“I will. Thank you for giving me your time. Again, I’m really sorry.”

She rolls her eyes and gestures the same way Gage did.“I forgive you, don’t worry about it. We all go through some crap sometimes.”

I can’t help myself and hug her. She tenses at first but graciously pats my back. I think she just wants to get me off her, but I don’t care. I’ve learned to love every part of the office, including the stick in the mud.

Everyone’s kindness and acceptance gives me hope. Maybe with time, Tarek and I can rebuild our relationship. I know I’ll have the support I’ll need.

“Well, I’ll get going now. I still have more people to apologize to,” I say as I leave.

“Don’t take too long, we’re very busy!” Angel can’t resist reprimanding me.

I roll my eyes as I head to the door, confident she won’t see anyway. Then I head out to look for the rest. On my way down the hall, I bump into Amber.

“Oh, hey! I was looking for you actually,” she says.

I tilt my head. “You were?”

“Yeah, I’m asking everyone if they want coffee. You know, just to ease the nerves for the meeting.”

I nod. “Let me help you then.”

We walk to the lounge room where the best coffee maker is. We fill about five cups before I muster the courage to apologize to her.

“Hey, Amber?”

She looks up from her cup. “What’s up?”

“I wanted to say I’m sorry I was distant and might’ve even acted rudely to you. I was going through a rough time, but that’s no excuse.”

She chuckles. “Don’t sweat it, I understand..”
