“Ah ah ah. You’re outnumbered here, boys. If you don’t hand over my woman, you’re going to die and I’ll still go home with her. This way, you at least get to go home. But my princess stays with me.” He beams like he just pitched the deal of a lifetime.

“Don’t you fucking dare, Evie,” Silas seethes quietly. “You know the plan. Stick to it.”

But I’m already shaking my head. “I told you I’m not leaving here without you.”

Bellefleur snaps his fingers. “Right, how rude of me. Yes, of course, take a moment to say goodbye to the St. James family, princess. I’m afraid you won’t be seeing them again.”

Well, I don’t like how fucking ominous that sounds. But I take the gift anyway, spinning around and throwing my arms out wide and planting my forehead against Bane’s chest. “I can take him,” I whisper.

“Baby, your aim is shit,” Silas whispers, despair thick on his tongue.

I place a kiss on Bane’s chest, turning to do the same for Nova and Silas. “Trust me.”

“I do, sugar. It’s those fuckers I don’t trust,” Bane says, discreetly tilting his head toward the gaggle of Savage Souls.

We’re outnumbered, eight of them and three of us. Technically there are four of us, but Silas is right, my aim leaves a lot to be desired. The truth is, I got lucky as fuck the day they stormed Silas’s house.

“Make it count then, yeah?” I grin at him. “I’m ninety-five percent confident that Bellfleur won’t shoot me, so all I have to do is incapacitate him so he doesn’t shoot you three. Easy-peasy.”

“Make him bleed, sweetheart,” Nova adds solemnly.

I squeeze Nova’s bicep as I turn around. I take my time strolling across the space until I stop right in front of him.

Bellfleur licks his lips, eyes dark and pupils blown. “So glad to see you’re learning. You’re not going to give me a hard time like you did in Bane’s basement, are you?”

“No.” I shake my head and force my face to fall into something submissive, relaxing my shoulders and looking at my feet. My pulse thunders in my ears, echoing the frenetic beat of my heart like a battle cry.

“C’mere, princess. Give your man a hug.” I let him pull me into his chest, and I have to breathe through my nose so I don’t vomit all over him.

I wait a beat, then two. Then I bring my knee up hard enough to crush his fucking balls into raisins. He lets go of me, drops his gun to clutch his crotch, and doubles over with a wail.

And then I hear the sweet sound of gunfire. Never thought I’d think that, let alone feel grateful for it. I don’t turn around, trusting them to take care of the Savage Souls. And I don’t want to take my eyes from the asshole on the ground.

Bellefleur groans as he rolls from side to side in the gravel, but it’s not enough. I kick his gun away, and when he reaches for it, I panic and stomp on his outstretched hand.

“I’m not your fucking princess, and you’re not my man,” I seethe. And then I bring my heel down on his dick for good measure.

He wails, this high-pitched sound of pain that grates on my ears, and I look around and take in the carnage.

Three people are left whole and standing, and relief hits me so fiercely, my knees wobble.

They jog over to me, the three of them converging on me and making sure I’m unharmed. Once they’re satisfied that I’m okay, they give me a little breathing room.

I look around, feeling overwhelmed by everything. “What are we going to do about all this?”

“I’ll call in a few favors, get it taken care of,” Bane says, pulling out his phone.

“And him?” I nod to the wailing man at our feet.

“Up to you, Evie. We’ll back whatever you say,” Silas says.

I nod a few times, dragging my teeth over my bottom lip. “I don’t know if I can ever relax knowing he’s out here somewhere.”

“You know, I’ve heard the lake is beautiful this time of year,” Nova says with a conspiratorial grin.

“Now what?” I murmur, feeling exhausted down to my very bones.

“Now we go get our boy, and we bring him home,” Silas says, wrapping his arms around me and curving me into his chest.
