I don’t have a ring to give, and I look at Carlo with frantic eyes. He points, and I turn around. A young girl stands behind me with two rings on top of a pillow. “Oh, hi there, sweetie,” I say.

She smiles sweetly and holds up the pillow. Carlo takes the ring meant for him and hands it to me before picking up the one he’s going to give me.

My mouth goes dry as I realize that the ring thing is just about the last part of the ceremony. I grip the ring in my fist as Carlo holds out his hand. It’s time to put a ring on his finger.

This seems so unreal, and I’m shaking as I slide it on his finger. “With this ring, I thee wed.” My voice is soft and cracks nervously.

He presses his lips against my forehead, and I’m instantly calm. Taking my left hand, he slips a ring on my finger. “With this ring, I thee wed.”

My knees go weak as I think about being married to the man I have been crushing on, and I utter the only word I can think of, “Cool.”

The priest clears his throat again. “Yes, very cool. I now pronounce you man and wife. Carlo, you may kiss your bride.”

Giggling as Carlo moves in for a kiss, I stop as soon as our lips meet. Memories are beginning to flash in my mind.

The two of us, kissing in the ballroom. Naked in the ballroom. Having sex in the ballroom.

Holy shit!

Carlo’s arms hold me steady as our lips part, and he turns us to face the people who clap and cheer. The priest’s voice comes from behind us, “Allow me to introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. Carlo Vietti.”

It seems real. Too real. Not like a dream at all.

But this can’t be real. It has to be a dream. All of it. Even the sex.

Carlo leans in to whisper in my ear, “Come, Mrs. Vietti, let’s greet our wedding guests.”

“Carlo?” I ask, then stop myself.

He nods. “It’s okay, Isabella. This will all make sense soon.”

“I’m your wife?” I don’t understand how this happened. “Me?”

“It was always you, Isabella.”

I planned my own wedding?

I have so many questions that I don’t even know where to start. Scanning the ballroom full of wedding guests, I don’t see my brother. “Where’s John?”

“He’s late,” Carlo tells me as he leads me down the aisle I must have had to walk down all alone.

“He didn’t walk me down the aisle?” I can’t believe he wouldn’t show up for my wedding.

Carlo nods. “We can talk about this later. There’s a video of the whole thing. I didn’t want you to never know how this whole thing went.”

“I’m so confused,” I say and turn to find some woman beaming at me.

She reaches out and pats me on the shoulder. “I can’t wait to talk to you.”

“Me too.” I have no idea who she is, but I have a feeling she’s someone important.

Carlo’s words help me understand. “You’ll have a lifetime to talk to your daughter-in-law, Mother.”

“Oh! Your mom!” Nodding, I keep looking at her as Carlo leads me away.

So many things begin coming to my mind as it becomes clearer. So many questions. The main one is why I feel as if I woke up in the middle of my wedding.

My wedding!
