“A good start.”

“While I’m down here, how about you lift your skirt and pull down your panties so I can nibble on you.”

“Oh, I’m all wet.” Her voice dripped with sincerity.

“I didn’t hear an answer.”

“I didn’t hear a question.”

“Okay, Bounty. I’m here on my knees. I’ve got a ring in my hand, and before I lick you to an orgasm, will you marry me?”

“I want children, Matty.”

He almost dropped the phone. “With me?”

“Who else, dummy?”

“Question first. If we have children, will they be like you or like me?” Matty shifted the phone to his other ear.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, will they be mortal or nearly immortal?”

“Ours will be like me. If they breed with humans, less so until further down the line the offspring will be mortal. If they breed with Aeternals, those in their bloodlines will retain a long life.”

“In that case, how do you feel about a large family?” He heard her breath hitch as he thrummed fingers on his desk, waiting. “Before you answer, let me say there will never be another woman for me. I will be happy to leave DNA pieces of myself behind to keep you company when I’m gone.”

“Oh, Matty.” She sniffled. “I couldn’t love you more. Of course I’ll marry you.”

He looked at his watch. Damn. “I’ll hold you to it. Tell the crazy brother of yours he’ll be my best man. Gotta go. Stay safe tomorrow.”

“You, too.”

When she disconnected, a part of Matty shut down, cold, bereft. He was a soldier, born and bred. He never worried about dying. It was part of the job. But, damn, he wanted to make his vampire smile even when he wasn’t there. She deserved happiness. And he was just the GI Joe to deliver the kids she wanted.

Cerberus awoke in his bed. Though still weak and groggy, he pushed up to lean against the headboard, his mind filled with visions of the coming victory.

His general had devised a winning battle plan. At sun’s rising, soldiers from nearby fortresses, all battle ready, would join those at his main garrison. They would sweep through North America. With the collapse of that continent, victory would be assured.

From other staging areas in Europe, Africa, and Asia, his soldiers would fan out across those continents like hungry beasts, feeding on humans. Fighters high on Gold Dust would form the front lines because they were more savage, frightening. Lort had once rightly said, “Fear is the most valuable weapon in an arsenal.”

The Arisen Dawn army, once well fed by defeated opponents, would round up surviving humans, keeping them as stock. Breeding programs would come later, always assuring an ample supply of food.

Lort had assigned a reliable officer to govern each continent. While these trusted males or females established bases of operations, others under their command would wipe out straggling pockets of rebellion. As promised, each hero of the movement could seize property and goods along with building their own human stables.

Cerberus, of course, would control all the world from his central command post.

A knock.

“Enter.”

His general pushed through the bedroom door. “I thought to check on you before I retire. Food and drink are being sent to your quarters. Is there anything you want?”

“A female. Have a guard bring one of the remaining descendants to me.”

“Do you have a preference?”
