“I want her happy. Safe.”

“I’ll see to it, my brother.” Dominion’s black wings shot out.

The fire-winged assassin of the OneCreator rested a hand on the hilt of his karambit. His journey had been long. He was weary, his mind tired of schemes. Perhaps a millennium of nothingness was what he required. But an eternity afterward when he awoke without his witch? He had been crazy to think he deserved a love such as hers.

“I agree.”

Upon his return, Ohngel flew Indy to the ylve region of Aerilon. It was a serene hilltop with a view of undulating tall grasses, fantasy land winding streams, and knolls sprinkled with wildflowers in bloom, a setting to comfort her while he told her the news. He was ready to close the portals and re-establish the Whorl despite what he would lose.

“Why are we here?” She trailed her hand along his muscled bicep, wisps of hair escaping her braid, stirring in the soft, scented breeze, her long skirt fluttering around her ankles.

“I have a way to re-create the Karmic Schism.”

“Fantastic.” Indy high-fived him.

Once she tamped down her exuberance, Ohngel’s chest expanded with a deep breath, prepping for the rest of the convo. “Cerberus fractured the divide between the realms, making re-creation harder. The new Blood Coven can do it, but they need a boost. That’s me.”

“H-h-o-o-w-w?” Lifting her chin, she drew out the word as if she suspected his plan was dodgy.

“My Feard brothers along with the Bearer of Death, Michael, will funnel energy to me. In turn, I’ll channel it to the coven to jack-up their spells. Simple. A transfer of power.”

“Who are those guys? Do you trust them?”

“They are close, like family but not. And yes, I trust them.”

Indy’s eyes narrowed with suspicion. “Nothing is ever simple. What aren’t you telling me?”

His witch was fearless, her loyalty and love deep. Ohngel was certain she would sacrifice her life to save the world, but would she accept his own offering?

She crossed her arms under her distracting breasts, ones that fit perfectly in his palms. “You told me I could trust you. Trust is built on honesty. You already have two strikes against you with the whole I’m-an-Arisen-Dawn-soldier and the Ohngel-Roark deceptions. Don’t go for three.”

He tucked an escaped coil of hair behind her ear, hair which had whispered across his chest at night, a sensation so erotic he could feel it still. “I’ll nap afterward.”

“Uh-huh. What else?”

“The nap will last a millennium.”

Indy’s breath hitched. She clasped a hand to her heart. “A millennium?” Shoeless, she curled angry toes into the grass.

“Yes.” He blinked.

“I’ll never see you again. I’ll be in the Evermore when you wake.” Through their connection, she screamed. No.

Despite her flailing arms, he pulled her close, feeling her warmth along with her rage seep into his cold body.

“If I don’t, millions of humans will die. Firebrands and other good Aeternals will die trying the impossible.”

“But I’ll have you. You promised we would have more tomorrows.” Her violet eyes gathered moisture.

He cradled her head to his chest, speaking to her without words. My Indy. My heart. I do this so you’ll have many tomorrows.

She whispered in his mind. I don’t want them without you. Chin up, she stared into his eyes, asking, “You’ll give me up to save the world?”

“What would you have me do?” His voice was flat, emotionless.

“Allow Arisen Dawn to spread across the Earth, taking what they want.”
