Ohngel glanced around his living room—correction—their living room. He and Indy jet-setted between her place on Scath and here in Angor. She still ran her business. In fact, she had expanded, hiring Jace, Celene, and Harley. After many millennia, he was happy, excited for each new day because of a female he cherished, a job he loved, and good friends.

Dominion sprawled in an overstuffed chair, a beer stein in hand. Michael took up the right end of the sofa while Ely and Remy relaxed against the bar, topping off brews when needed. Indy sat cross-legged on the floor soaking up the conversation.

Ohngel admitted to arching his brows when his witch suggested they throw a party for his friends. She even volunteered to cook. Poisoned food crossed his mind. Dinner, however, was great, and his fellow warriors were still upright and breathing.

Before answering a question from Indy, Michael sipped his ale. He swiped the back of his hand across his lips. “Good.” Setting his mug on the coffee table, he continued, “About Gahya and Gabriel. They weren’t happy about Ohngel getting off so easy, but the OneCreator is clever. He distracted them by offering another bet. Something to do with creating a new animal species on Darque.”

“Here we go again. How was the book club?” Ohngel asked, changing the subject. For the others, he explained Indy’s extracurricular activity. “Apparently, it is not uncommon for humans to come together to discuss books they have read.”

“No offense, but that doesn’t sound very fun.” Remy tossed back his ale.

“You’d be surprised.” Indy’s lips curled into a sly smile.

“What makes it exciting?” asked Ely.

His witch glanced down at folded hands in her lap. “I could say a great plot, good character development, meaningful themes. Or I could say sex.”

That caught their attention. Even Ohngel was curious. “What?”

“Next on our list is a book I found in your library. Maybe you’ve read it. The Feard Exposed. I’m thinking that along with great adventures and a lot of dead bodies, we might read about naked guys doing X-rated stuff.”

Throat clearing and mumbles met her announcement. Ohngel let loose with a throaty laugh, realizing they might be in for some dick-measuring.

Indy stuck out her glass. “Refill, Ely. So, how’s the assassin biz, guys?”

Smooth.

She had shifted the subject. When Indy smiled, Ohngel knew she heard him.

“We’re not running out of stupid.” The ice-winged warrior turned a spigot to top off her brew. “At least we have job security.”

At ease, Michael leaned back into the cushions. “I was kinda shocked to get an invite to this gathering, Indigo.”

“This foodfest-slash-kegger is my way of saying I’ve decided not to witch-bolt the lot of you for being general asswipes.”

Dom didn’t even blink. Ely looked slightly contrite. Remy bristled. Ohngel felt his lips slide into a grin.

Michael’s mouth quirked upward as he propped his boots on the coffee table. “Indigo, I am pleased by this turn of events.”

“Yeah, well, don’t get too comfy. I’ll change my mind in a sec if you ever hurt Roark again. Also, I’ve figured out a way to stop you from zinging my gryphons, bright boy.”

When she winked at Ohngel, he knew she would have his back for all eternity, this witch with the generous heart, wicked humor, and abiding love.

The End
