While the succubus historical weapons expert glared, her eyes an unattractive squint, he bent to whisper in Indigo’s ear. “Would you like a piece of me, too?”

His hot breath tickled her ear, stirring her libido. Unprofessional thoughts popped into her head. “Don’t flatter yourself.”

“Move over, Indy.” He brushed her feet off the long couch where she stretched out, making room for himself.

“My name is not now, nor has it ever been, Indy.”

The arrogant shifter ignored her to sit, plopping her legs onto his lap.

“What was the succubus saying when her tongue wasn’t hanging out?”

“Hmm. Speaking of tongue. How about using yours to lick me from crown to hilt until I spill like a teen on his first real date?”

Indigo’s gaze locked onto the bulge in Roark’s pants.

“You should see a healer about your penis. Constant swelling can be a sign of a serious infection.”

Roark grinned. “No diseases. Unless you count a case of man-whore.” His hand dared to slide beneath her skirt and slither up a bare leg. “My cock gets hard whenever I look at you.” He paused to arch a brow. “And I know you want me.”

“Do not.” After the words left her lips, she sighed.

Childish response.

He tilted his head back and had the nerve to laugh, a loud guffaw which must have carried to the succubus in the front of the airliner.

When Indigo opened her mouth, he pressed a finger to her lips. “Do, too.”

She flipped her feet off Roark’s lap, curled a leg onto the couch, and twisted toward the window, feigning an interest in the clouds, her heart pounding against her ribs. She shook off her nervousness, not liking what she became in his presence. She was not a shy, discombobulated female. She was Indigo, reader of the river, incomparable finder of lost objects, witch extraordinaire, sister of Alarik, aunt of Rein, daughter of Tor and Adriana, madwoman, and quirky bitch. How dare he make her feel like a schoolgirl with a crush. She’d show him.

Spinning toward Roark, she gave him a wicked grin when she palmed his swollen, disease-infected erection. “Is that for me?”

He flung his arms across the back of the couch. “It is, Indy. Just unzip my pants, take me out, and abuse me.”

She gave his cock one last squeeze before she released it with a sigh. “Not interested.”

Roark growled, adjusting his pants. “Yes, you are, but you’re a cruel female. And a tease.”

His stare burned as he leaned toward her. “Warning. I’m not like the males you’ve had before, pliant and obedient.” Under thick lashes, his gray eyes, usually resembling shards of glass, went dark, sparking with unimaginable age as if they had seen much. “When I want something, I hunt it. I corner it. I subdue it. When I decide to have you, you’ll be on your hands and knees with my fist wrapped around your hair, unable to stop me from sating my needs.” He relaxed. His playboy grin re-plastered in place. “Or not.”

Indigo shivered. She had caught a momentary flash of unrestrained power behind his gaze. As it faded, she moved onto a safer subject. “Let’s stick to our mission.”

Once more he was the glib, irritating shifter whose task was to find Blood’s Kiss while he drove her crazy. “Whatever you say, Indy.”

Before she could snark a reply, Lynretta hustled toward them, waving a book in the air. “I’ve been reading the Alexander Romance. In the original Greek.” She batted her long lashes at Roark as if he should be impressed. When he didn’t react, she continued. “Anyway, I mentioned this work the other day. Listen.”

“Make it short,” said Roark. “Please, God,” he muttered too softly for Lynretta to hear.

Indigo muffled a chuckle, a hand clasped over her mouth.

“Of course. Humans have called this tale an imaginative invention by the author, but Aeternals know the events are possible. An early historian authenticated…”

Roark growled. The succubus had the good sense to move onward. “Okay. The quick version. Alexander had a tryst withThalestris, queen of the Amazons. Hoping to create a breed of children as strong and intelligent as Alexander, she brought three hundred females to him to mate.”

Roark nodded. “Who could pass up that deal?”

“Males,” Indigo chuffed.

“Warriors have needs, Indy.”
