Naked.

What the hell? I might love the guys, but not like that! Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I didn’t wait all these years just to waste this with Lyle.

A groan behind me startles me, and I push myself up to get a better look around before I jump to any more conclusions. My head spins, and I lean forward, burying it in my hands and wait for the dizziness to pass.

Thankfully, it doesn’t last long. I sit back, only to find I’m also naked. Looking to my left, I find Storm and Sol laid out on the ground next to me, and to my right is Lyle with Pike not far from him.

Every last one of us is naked, lying in the woods, if the sun and the endless trees are anything to go by.

Finding everyone naked should be weirder, but it actually soothes some of my panic. Shifting while dressed shreds our clothes. It’s been a while since we woke up like this, but it isn’t the first time. Before we learned control, this happened a lot. It’s probably been at least ten years since the last time, but I’ll take that over what I initially feared.

“What the fuck? I feel like I got hit by a truck, man,” Pike groans, rolling over into Lyle much the same way I just did. Unlike me, though, he cuddles into his side instead of moving away. Pike’s urge to cuddle knows no boundaries. Unfortunately for him, when Lyle comes to, he’s going to be less than thrilled to find Pike’s dick pressed up against his thigh.

“Let’s go.”

I find Garrett standing not far away, just inside the tree line. His back is to us, but unlike the rest of us, he still appears to have pants.

All at once, everything comes back to me. Serena disappearing, Garrett leading us into the woods, the moon gate, and power-sharing with him to open a portal. I whip around, searching the woods around us and wondering how I missed that they're not like anything I’ve ever seen.

The leaves on the trees are mostly green around us, just like usual, but that’s about the closest thing to normal about them. Mushrooms and flowers litter the ground, shining and colorful as if glowing in the sun. Their bright blues and purples make the forest look mystical, as if pulled from the pages of a fairytale.

“Welcome to Anolas, the Kingdom of Light,” Garrett says, closer than he was a moment ago but still not facing us. Something about his body language is off; he doesn’t look like someone who just succeeded in bringing us to another realm, to find the girl we love, despite us all thinking he was crazy.

I push myself up and am grateful to find the dizziness completely gone. There’s nothing that can be done about my naked ass, though, so I ignore it. Some part of me wonders if maybe that’s why he’s not looking our way, but my gut tells me it’s something more. It’s never steered me wrong so far, and I don’t plan to start ignoring it now.

I stop a few steps shy of him, giving him the chance to turn and face me, but he keeps his gaze focused out into the shadows of the forest.

“What happened?” I ask, figuring that’s a good place to start.

He’s quiet for a moment, and I hear the others beginning to stir behind me, but I don’t turn back to look; instead.

“We made it,” he says as if that explains everything.

It doesn’t, and he knows it.

“I gathered that with the glowing mushrooms.”

“Get your dick off me, Pike!” Lyle shouts behind me, and Garrett shakes his head and huffs a laugh. Good to know whatever is going on isn’t so bad that he can’t find the joy in Lyle’s suffering.

“Shhh, just ignore it and go back to sleep,” Pike whines. A thud a moment later leaves him whining even louder, and I have no doubt Lyle just smacked him upside the head.

“Magic is different here. There’s more of it. Going through the portal gave you access to much more magic faster than your body could process and forced you to shift, which also means you’re without clothes for now,” Garrett explains.

Everything he’s saying makes sense. I remember looking out at the kingdom before my body was overcome with pain. The next thing I knew, I was waking up naked in the woods.

No, that’s not true. I remember the pain.

A pain so intense I hadn’t been able to think.

Was that from the magic?

“Why the hell didn’t you tell us it was going to feel like we were being ripped apart?” Sol asks, his voice strained, letting me know he hasn’t been awake long and is probably feeling the same way I had. Hopefully, it won’t last long; I’m already almost feeling completely normal.

Minus the strange hollow feeling in my chest.

“Would it have mattered?” Storm snaps at him, making me turn to look at him.

His eyes are red, and his hair stands at weird angles as he heaves deep breaths. He looks like he’s about to lose his shit, but Sol doesn’t deserve to be on the receiving end of it.
