Rose is pretty but is on the skinny side. You could tell by her arms. They are very thin, like a person who has an eating disorder. I’m not one to judge, but she would look healthier if she ate a little more.

“What’s his type? I don’t really care, but there is no one here right now that is interesting to talk about, so enlighten me.”

“Nothing that resembles me," she replies, her eyes losing some of their brightness. "I'm too skinny. Back in high school, guys would tell me, 'Go eat a cheeseburger.' Some think I'm pretty but too bony. I think they were trying to be nice.”

“I’m sorry,” I say, knowing firsthand how that feels.

She waves her hand like it’s no big deal, but I can tell it is. It’s a very big deal.

“I think he likes blond girls. I heard he liked this blond girl his sophomore year because he was around her more than the others. I think she was the only one he slept with more than once, but the other guys were here around that time until they graduated. They were older, and now it’s just him.”

I turn my head and catch a girl whispering in his ear, but his expression is hard as if he’s annoyed.

“Who’s that talking to him?”

“That’s Melissa. Senior. Stay away from her. They have something going on that no one knows the details about. She loves to play games, and according to some of the girls in the dorms, she’s bi and loves pussy.”

I raise my brows. “You think they…”

“Oh yeah.” She nods. “They’ve known each other since high school. She comes from money. Her dad is some investor, I think, or an exporter. I’m not sure, but her family is connected. She’s a real conniving bitch and loves his leftovers.”

“Leftovers?” I ask, confused.

I knew Veronica didn’t tell me the whole story, but this is new. This is weird. This entire school and the people who go here are fucked up. It’s like opening Pandora's box and finding a whole lot of dark and crazy.

“She fucks all the girls he fucks. It’s a game for her. I’m not sure if they still sleep with each other, but I think he’s annoyed by it yet does nothing about it. Rich people shit.”

“And you?”

"My sister graduated last year, and I was able to get a scholarship."

“That’s impressive. It sounds like she got something worthwhile from this place.”

“Sure, if you overlook what she went through.”

I'm about to probe further when the server arrives. I order a basket of fries and a Coke. She opts for a Sprite. Once the server departs, she leans in slightly.

“She left with more than just a degree—and also a broken heart.”

I nod, sensing the weight of her words. Curiosity piques me, but it feels too personal to pry.

Her gaze suddenly fixes on a new arrival. “See the jerk at two o'clock? That's Garret. The very definition of a rich asshole. Throws wild parties when his parents are out of town. And yeah, that was the one who shredded my sister's heart. He slept with her, then pretended she was invisible. Just another reason to stay away from them.”

“I know. I heard,” I say insentiently.

“I hope they drown,” she teases.

I can't help but chuckle. "I heard demons can breathe underwater."

"You're kinda funny. Which dorm are you staying in?"

"I'm not."

"Ah, rich parents, then?"

"Hardly. I live off-campus. I could only score a scholarship for tuition."

"That's rough."
