A smirk plays at the corner of my lips. “You'll just open them the moment my shirt comes off.”

“I won't,” he vows, and the steadfastness in his tone almost convinces me. Almost.

“How can I trust you?”

“Trust is not earned, Melody. You have my trust, and I have yours. It’s what we do to lose that trust—the actions that shatter it. Change.”

“If that’s the case, then why did you tell the driver to step outside?”

“You don’t want to see what happens if he breaks my trust, Melody,” he says with his eyes closed. “It will be bloody.”

“You would kill him?”

“If he sees you change your shirt without my consent, I’ll kill him. I don’t think you want to see that. I want you to trust me. It’s safe for you to change.”

I look around. I wave my hand in front of his face, but he doesn’t move. He doesn’t flinch. His eyes are closed. The only light is from the dim light coming from the floorboard and the strip of light on the door panels.

I take a second to admire how beautiful he is. My eyes trail over his ripped arms, memorizing the tattoos of skulls and crows. My eyes find the piercing on his lip. The glint of the small diamond piercing his nose. His lashes are long and dark despite his blond hair.

I pull the polo shirt over my head. I can see the grin playing on his lips. I lean close to check if he’s trying to steal a glance.

“Are you wearing a bra?”

I grab the black cropped top from the bag. “Yes.”

“Color?”

“Black.”

I pull the shirt over my head. Over the swell of my breasts. The fabric is soft and tight. It’s comfortable and smells like a boutique store.

He sticks his hand out. “Give me your hand.”

His eyes close when I lean over and slide the palm of my hand into his. His hand is large, warm, and strong. The smell of his cologne makes me dizzy. I reach out to steady myself.

My eyes pop open. I was too busy admiring the feel of his hand, not realizing I was touching the crotch of his jeans. His cock is hard.

“Valen,” I whisper.

“I don’t have to see you to know that I want you, Melody. The thought of you in a bra with my eyes closed is enough.” I snatch my hand back. “Is it safe for me to open my eyes?”

He didn’t see me. If he did, I’m sure he wouldn’t feel the same way.

“Yes.”

I look out the window. His driver leans with his back against the car, scrolling through his phone. Valen taps the window, signaling that it’s safe to come inside.

We arrive at a frat party. The last place I would agree to go, but for some reason, walking in with Valen has me at ease. Maybe it’s because he could have taken advantage of me inside the car, but he didn’t, or because I’m attracted to him.

He doesn’t stop to chat and ignores everyone trying to get his attention. One of the girls, sipping a beer in the corner, directs a seductive smile at him. Some I’ve seen walking around campus. Some are from my class, and others I have never seen before.

He heads down a hallway, opens a door, and steps aside to let me through.

“Why are we here?”

“So I can show you something,” he says.

Panic sets in when I see a bed. I whirl around, but he blocks me. “That is not for you. I didn’t bring you here to do something you wouldn’t want to do. I’ll explain.”
