I take a deep breath and head over with my head held high even though inside I’m screaming from the nightmare. I can’t seem to remember the night they raped me. I place the plates in front of the four girls, ignoring Zack’s stare.

“Back again,” Zack says playfully. “I knew you couldn’t stay away.” He reaches into his pocket and places a stack of twenties on the table.

I look up.

He smiles. “For all the times you didn’t get a tip. I didn’t know you moved out of your parents’ house.”

I ignore the money and glance at the other girls and his other two friends.

“Can I get you anything else?”

“A thank you would be nice, as would a date Saturday night,” Zack says with confidence.

I glare at him like he’s lost his fucking mind. "No, and you should put that money away.”

I look back at the girls, and then a naughty smile appears over the one with blond hair. “Hi,” she says.

It takes me a moment to realize she is not talking to me but someone behind me. I feel him before I can even turn to look at him. He rests his hand on my shoulder. I look over and meet Valen’s gaze, full of determination. I try to shrug it off, but he brazenly slides his hand slowly over my ribs and stops at my hips. I can feel the heat through my uniform. Zack and his friend have both eyebrows raised.

“Are you ready?” Valen says, his breath fanning my neck. “I’m so hungry.” I can see from the corner of my eye that his gaze is traveling over me suggestively.

“Find a booth, and I’ll be right there.”

“You’re fucking him?” Zack asks, staring right at me.

“I don’t blame you,” the girl with dark hair says, and then looks at Valen. “We had some good times last semester.”

“I’m sorry,” Valen says. “Who are you?”

“Party? Last semester. Ohio State won against Penn State. We hooked up at the after-party. I’m Deborah.”

“I don’t know who you are, Deborah. I was loaded.”

“Loaded?” she asks, confused.

“Yeah. I coked the fuck out. I was going through shit, and I wouldn’t have remembered what time it was. I’ve never seen you before.”

Her smile falls when she realizes he’s serious. That night was the night. I remember it because of the game. If Valen was loaded, that would mean he didn’t know I was there. Zack's gaze shifts from me to Valen, then to Deborah, then to his friend, then to his other friend, before returning to Valen with a worried expression in his eyes.

“You were at the party?” Zack asks, surprised.

Zack didn’t know Valen was there.

“Yeah, man. I was there, but I don’t remember shit. I had Garret pick me up at around one a.m. I couldn’t see straight. I was drunk, high, and drinking Coke. I wasn’t in the right headspace. I went into a room that was spinning and got the fuck out. If Garret hadn’t called me, I would’ve passed out. I don’t party like that anymore.”

“Oh… I never saw you there,” Zack says with a look of relief. “Melody was there, though. I guess you really were loaded or would have recognized her.”

I feel his hand tighten on my hip. “Oh yeah. Why is that?”

“Oh…yeah. It doesn’t matter.“ Zack glances at me. “Melody had a few drinks, and I had to take her home that night. I was surprised you were there at all. She doesn’t remember much either.”

Liar. I hate him, and I never thought of seriously hurting someone until Zack and his friends. I drop the pen in my hands and notice they are shaking. Zack raped me. He raped me while I was with his friends.

I bend over, pick up the pen, and practically run to the back of the diner. I check my phone, grateful that my shift is over. I clock out and run out the back, where I find Valen leaning on my piece of shit car.

“In a hurry?” he asks.

“I need to go,” I say in a shaky voice.
