“Well, I’m not done.”

He growled, and pulled my legs over his shoulders, lifting me half off the vanity, as he buried his face between my thighs once more. I cried out, my arms angling back to support my weight as his wicked tongue delved between my folds and his thumb pressed precisely where I needed pressure most.

Again, he strummed me to climax, playing my clit like a maestro caresses a mastered instrument. I came in a slur of vulgarity and broken prayers, my body tightening like a bow only to shatter the moment ecstasy burst from every nerve. I trembled and wilted, but he caught me before I could fall.

“God, you’re so fucking sexy.”

“Only for you,” I whispered, eyes closed and weak as he pulled me to his lap.

His cock was out and he lifted my limp body over him, his length sliding into me like a sword fits back to its sheath. “Just let me hold you like this for a little while.”

I clung to him, needing a minute before I could do more.

His lips pressed into my temple, curving against my skin. “Only for me,” he whispered, flexing his hips and hugging me tight to his body.

Soft gasps fled from my lips to his ears as he fucked me slowly. It was beautiful. Contrastingly gentle and perfect. When he finished, he held me as if afraid to let our bodies come apart.

“I don’t want to spend another night without you, Rayne.”

I sighed, resting my cheek on his shoulder and pressing a kiss to his neck. If only it was that easy. Still, I pretended with him that it could be.

“Then don’t.”

His sigh matched mine. “We should get moving if we want to make dinner.”

Fate wouldn’t allow us to stay that way, but Hale was always there to make sure we made the most of the precious moments we had. It was amazing we found the energy to do more than sleep after that, but he was determined. He ordered two espressos from room service while I cleaned myself up, and then we were on our way.

Some people knew how to do origami and others knew how to build empires out of nothing but sand. My fiancé knew how to do New York.

First, we had dinner at Per Se, then we went for a horse-drawn carriage ride around Central Park. We didn’t have time for a show, but Hale promised to take me to Broadway during one of our upcoming visits when he had more time.

“I want to be there for all your firsts,” he said as we walked under the bright lights of Times Square.

While Hale had not been the guy to punch my V-card, he was the first to steal my heart. He was my first love, the first man to show me how to make love, and the first man to truly love me for the woman I was.

“I want all those firsts with you,” I confessed, lacing my fingers with his.

My love for Hale had formed a codependence I didn’t want to cure. But that’s what marriage was supposed to be, right? A partnership should be equal and reliable, shouldn’t it? Hale was my everything guy, and there was no coming back from how deeply I loved him.

As we walked, I wondered if my obsession with Hale had somehow pushed Elle away. As soon as I got home, I needed to spend some one-on-one time with her. If she could still keep secrets while looking me in the eye then there was no denying we had problems.

“I want to take a detour,” Hale said, turning left on 48th. “Are you warm enough?”

It wasn’t too cold of a night, and Hale had also bought me a long dress coat for the evening, so I was comfortable. “I’m fine.”

We had left Marty a few blocks back and I wasn’t sure how far we were from the hotel, but I was once again grateful for my flats.

Keeping his arm laced with mine, he veered me away from the bright lights. “Look.”

I smiled over the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. “This is Thirty Rock! I feel like Tina Fey might pop out at any moment.”

“I want to show you something.” He steered me toward the building.

Many flags whipped overhead as we tried to dodge the wind. Hale led me closer to the mammoth skyscraper.

When I saw the neon lights for The Tonight Show my excitement and curiosity doubled. “Holy crap, are we going to see Jimmy Fallon?”

“Better.”
