Bang. Aaah!

Bang. Aaah!

It’s everywhere. All the doors, multiple at a time. They slam open. Bang. Bang. Bang.

Sometimes it’s accompanied by a silenced gunshot. Pop! Pop!

The two men look at each other, finally reacting. Bogdan glances around the room. His gun must have fallen off when he was trying to rape me.

The handler puts a hand on the gun at his waist.

“What the f—”

He’s cut off when my bedroom door opens.

Pop! Pop! The handler falls.

Pop! Pop! Two more bullets, Bogdan is next.

And there stands the devil who caused this madness.

The tall devil with hair that always reflects the sun, blinding your senses. The devil with the eyes that draw you in and the smile that promises nothing but chaos.

And chaos he caused.

Nathan White lowers his gun and smiles at me like he’s facing an angel for the first time.

“Little sunflower.” As calm as the sea on a beautiful summer day.

My eyes fill with tears at the look of relief on his face. Heart exploding in my chest, my brain hardly believes that he did it. He found me.

“My sun,” I cry out.

I jump up from the bed, stumbling over my feet, and fall into his arms. He takes me in, in that exact protective way that I love and long for. That gets me addicted, that calms my heartbeat and heaving breaths in only a few seconds.

He lifts me up, and I wrap my legs around his waist.

“Are you alright? Did they hurt you?”

I shake my head. They did hurt me, but none of it matters now that he’s here, freeing me, giving me life again.

“I’m okay,” I sob. I run a hand across my nose, sniffling. “I’m okay. You’re here, and I’m okay.”

He chuckles into my neck, his embrace tight and soothing. “I’m starting to see where Lia gets all that repeating from.”

I burst into a laugh, still crying, finding it hard to believe this is all over.

“You found me,” I whisper against him, holding him tighter.

“My little sunflower, I will always find you.”

We walk out of the room together. It’s a massacre. All the handlers are dead, and the women have run out of the building.

“Where are we?” I rasp.

“In the underground of a bar called The Nightcap. We’re in New York.”

I nod, taking the information in as he leads me by the hand, going over dead bodies. “How long?”
