One more minute and I’ll sleep.

And I promise I’m about to roll over onto my back, when her body twitches violently. Her face twists, a gasp trembling up her throat.

I let go of her pussy, giving her some space, but it wasn’t because of me since it happens again. It’s sudden, her body twisting now, like something somewhere is hurting.

I feel my brow furrowing. What the fuck is that? I’m about to order her to name the emotion when I’m reminded that she’s fucking asleep. But I can’t read her if she can’t tell me what she’s feeling.

Is she scared? It’s hard when I don’t see the fear in her eyes. I run through the information I’ve learned from her.

Fear, despair, satisfaction, obedience, defeat.

I don’t get it.

She startles again, her back curving. Then she tries to turn to the side, like she’s avoiding something.

“Stop it,” she groans. “Stop, let her go.”

“Kayla.” I don’t even know what to say next. I’ve never dealt with whatever this is before.

She whimpers, her eyes scrunching, her face morphing. She’s in pain, but she’s asleep.

“No!” she cries out. “Don’t break me… Don’t break me. You’re going to break me.”

The words are barely articulated, like her jaw muscle can’t function, but I still make them out. Is she having a nightmare about what just happened?

“Kayla,” I snap, harsher this time. “You’re dreaming.”

“Dad, stop.” A whimper escapes her again, and my body freezes. “You’re going to break me!”

Dad?

Her hand lashes out in front of her. It’s like she’s trying to push someone away.

“Please, Dad…”

Ah. Fuck.

I wrap my fingers around her wrist, dragging her closer to me.

“Wake up.” I don’t fucking know what to say. I feel like I’m facing a puppy that has no idea how to listen to an order.

I shake her, and she starts to hyperventilate.

“I’ll break…” She gasps, choking on air. “I’ll break… No, no.”

What is this reaction?

I feel frustration rising within me. She’s impossible to wake up. Is this some sort of sleepwalking?

“Name it, Kayla,” I bark.

What the fuck am I doing? She can’t hear me.

I pull her closer, lifting her slightly. She’s so stiff I can barely move her, but she’s as heavy as a dead body, completely asleep.

“Wake the fuck up.”

I slide my hand behind her neck, attempting to sit her up, but she fights me out of nowhere, suddenly screaming her lungs out. I try to stop her from hitting me, and I lose the little balance I had to sit up.
