Gorgo tsked. “You think I would only ask for one favor?”

A muscle in Zander’s jaw twitched. “You did say a favor.”

Tank grabbed Dawn’s cup and downed it. He had already finished his drink. Then he let out a loud disgusting burp, catching everyone’s attention.

Dawn giggled but stopped short when Zander scowled.

“Sorry.” Tank shrugged. “That’s never happened before. But I’ve never had two. But, what’s in this drink?” He lifted up the cup and tapped the bottom.

“The bartender should have warned you.” Gorgo grabbed another peanut and split it into two. “The ale here is much stronger. It’s no fun if you can’t feel the effect of the alcohol.”

My feathers twitched almost constantly. I wanted to get out of here. Having Snow and Otis on watch and our team split up did not settle well with me.

“Enough of the ale shit.” I tightened my hold on my mug and dragged it away from Tank, who had been eyeing it. “What do we do now?”

Gorgo let out a long, defeated sigh. “My brother knows about my betrayal, so I’m going to have to come up with a new plan and ask for favors among those I trust in the castle. Asmodeus has built a tight wall around him. I’ll come find you as soon as I figure out his security.”

I had agreed to meet Gorgo again to create the pretense that I would give him another chance, but I didn’t trust anything he said. There was no proof of this traitor. Helping me escape could be an elaborate way to lure even more angels into his trap.

Trust is one thing you can’t screw up. EVER. Once the damage is done, there’s no return. My team and I would find our way to terminate the king, even if it cost my life at the end. We needed to search for allies. There might be other …Just then a thought occurred.

King Victus is considering your offer. If you deliver what you promised, he will help you bring down your brother.

“What is your game with Victus?” I asked. “What did you promise him?”

“King Victus,” Gorgo corrected.

I shoved my face into his. “I don’t care about his title. He’s no king of mine. Now, tell me about your deal with him or I’ll show you just how they treated me in the dungeon.”

A deep throaty growl came from Zander at the reminder of my ordeal. I wasn’t the only one being tortured in my absence.

Gorgo bristled and his hazel human eyes turned onyx before he regained control. But his tone stayed neutral. “It’s none of your concern. However, to show you my good faith I will tell you. King Victus wants Levia’s head.”

“He should get in line.” Dawn adjusted her hood that had tipped back when Tank placed an arm around her shoulders, getting a bit friendly.

Zander’s mug was empty, though he hadn’t taken a sip. Tank must have drank it. That sneak.

“Why Levia?” Zander’s gaze shot toward the door then back to Gorgo. “What did she do?”

“I don’t know.” Gorgo drummed his fingers on the table as he flashed a glance over at his soldiers, who were playing cards with the other demons from a table next to them. The soldiers must have gotten bored.

“Ass cow.” Tank pounded a fist so hard, a crack splintered down the middle but didn’t break the table.

We all flinched, even all the chatting from the customers halted. Dawn placed her arm down the fractured part to cover the damage as a nervous laugh escaped her.

When one of the demons slapped a card and shouted, “I won.” All the attention went back to their table.

“I meant … cow’s ass.” Tank shook his head and smacked his face. “No … the word is ...” He waved a finger at Gorgo. “Donkey’s ass, I think. Ssi-bal, I don’t know.”

Zander sighed and said to Gorgo, “Find out. I have to know. Levia and I owe each other a favor, and I don’t want to get in the middle of whatever is between them.”

Angels kept their word, unlike the other species, but I wanted Zander to cut off his deal with Levia. We already had too much shit to deal with.

Gorgo gave a curt nod.

“What was the meeting about?” Tank’s irises rolled back and he leaned his head on Zander’s shoulder. “Why are we here?”

“Come on, you big beast.” Dawn pulled him up by his arm and helped him out of the chair. “I think its best I take him out.”
