No fucking clue.

Rolling my shoulders, I’m tense. I’m not in the mood to babysit and guide her step by step with everything I need her to do.

Then maybe you should be more specific.

“Meat. No salads.”

“Easy enough.”

I avert my attention because she’s killing me right now. This is by far one of the stupidest things I’ve ever fucking done. “Are you good out here, or do you need me to babysit you again?”

A mirthless chuckle rumbles from Liv’s lips but I’ve been around her long enough to know she’s gearing up to let me have it again. “Why don’t you go measure the grass or something and make sure it’s up to your standards before I leave? I don’t want to come into work tomorrow with you complaining that it’s off an eighth of an inch off.”

Cute.

“You think I’m that anal about my shit?” I slice my focus back to her, finding her staring up at me like a goddamn wet dream—literally.

“You really want me to answer that question?”

No.

However, I’d give a fuck if she were someone I wanted to impress. The last time I gave a shit about what a kid thought of me was never.

“I’m good,” I impart before jerking my head to her car. “Why don’t you get home to your mom before the streetlights turn on?”

“I still got a few minutes,” she replies almost sweetly. “Did you need me to help you find your life alert bracelet before I left?”

I can’t help the smirk that forms on my lips because that was actually a good one. “Would you?” My feet move without my telling them to. “I might need to be tucked in too.”

Her chin follows me so that she can keep her gaze locked on mine. “That’s above my pay grade.”

“You’re not getting paid,” I remind her. “You’re my little bitch for the next ninety days.” I cock my head to the side as if it just occurred to me. “Damn…that’s a really long time.”

Liv blinks and her long eyelashes brush along her cheekbones, summoning my attention to them. “Probably longer than your stamina, huh, big man?”

A humorless chuckle rumbles from my chest, and it’s too bad she’s never gonna find out. “Don’t get pissy with me because I’m benefiting longer than you, Opie.”

She hums. “I hope my mother asks you all the uncomfortable questions.”

“I hope she does, too, so I can embarrass the shit out of you.”

She scoffs haughtily. “You should be embarrassed.”

“Why?”

“Because you only sat in your garage like a creep while you watched me mow your grass.”

“No, sweetheart, creepy is eye-fucking you while I do it.”

“You did.”

My eyebrows fly to the sky because the little girl was paying attention. “Wow…I knew you were young but not arrogant, too.”

“I’m not blind.”

“I think you are. Or the sun was in your eyes.”

“I knew you were old but not senile, too.”
