“You’re not with me, Opie.”

“I am this weekend, Hudson. Why do I have to keep reminding you?”

I begin to rock my head back and forth. “You’re taking this a little too far.”

“And you’re not taking it far enough.” Her lucid blue eyes bore into me, and maybe she’s right. I’m getting three months of out this deal while she’s only getting three days.

“What do you want from me?” I ask openly. “More hand-holding?”

“More?” she repeats. “You’d have to do it one time before you made it a second thing.”

I ground my teeth. “You’re a straight pain in my ass. I’m not going to defile a young girl.”

“I was defiled in tenth grade by Lucas Crowley. He fucked me missionary until I told him I wanted it harder. I wanted it to hurt.”

My fingers curl into tight-ass fists, thinking of some young prick bending her over and bottoming out inside her. “You’re vanilla, Opie.”

“I’m rainbow bright, boss.”

My hand seizes her throat, surprising the fucking shit out of me, but not her.

No, she raises that round little chin and challenges me to call her out again. To conclude opinions on her based on the years she’s been on this earth.

And I’m pissed at even touching her, but I’m not going to back down now.

“I don’t know what you’re trying to prove, but we’re not gonna make this real,” I impart, pressing the pads of my fingertips into her throat for good measure. “I’m not gonna fuck you. I’m not even interested in you like that.”

“It’s probably best for you then.”

My skin brushes along the soft trail of her neck, overtaken by how fucking perfect she is. “Why’s that?”

“Because it’d be a privilege to fuck me.”

She’s not wrong.

It’d just be a screwup for me because I’m her boss. We work together. And I’ll still use the classic line: I don’t want a relationship.

I’m fine with where I am in life and what I have.

“I’m sure it is, Opie. But you don’t have to worry about me.” I force my hand to release her neck and attempt to focus on my breathing. “I got your back but I’m not going to put you on it.”

“Good.”

I’m a bit taken aback by how quickly she bounced back. Maybe I’m being a bit conceited with how I’d assume she would want me due to my age.

You’re a tool, bro.

“I’m wired,” Liv mutters, rounding my body and striding toward her suitcase. “C’mon, let’s go relax out on the balcony and count down how much more time we have left here.”

Quickly rummaging through her suitcase, Liv appears with a small silver case between her tiny fingers and a red lighter.

Those blue eyes steeling me to my spot because I was expecting more freaking out. More complaining about Summer and what she attempted to pull off outside this room. Not a blunt in between her fingers as she brings it to her plush, pink lips.

“You’re lighting that in here?”

Liv doesn’t bother sparing me another glance when she brings the lighter to the end. She inhales, igniting the weed, then exhales a small puff. “Look what you made me do, Hudson.”

“I feel like you were lookin’ for a reason.”
