I don't want Hawk raising anyone's kids but mine.

Zephyr catches me glaring at her and gives me a smile that says she knows exactly what's up.

"He even has a cute nickname for you--Rebel.You should totally wife the deputy." She winks and giggles.

The fact that I'm laughing so hard with her makes it hard to pull off a believable disgusted look.

"What?" I ask when she stops laughing and gives me a pointed look.

"You like him."

"Eww. No." I wrinkle my nose in protest but I know I'm not convincing her. Hell, I'm not even convincing myself.

"I know you don't like the whole good guy scout's honor thing in a guy but Hawkins obviously has a bad boy streak in him if he's been helping the grandmas out with all the shit they've been pulling lately..."

Zeph leans close to make sure the kids playing in the rec room don't overhear and whispers in a conspiratorial tone, "I bet he'sfirein bed."

"Ohmygod, I can't believe you said that!" I give her shoulder a hard shove.

"Man's got handcuffs, Tee-- just sayin'."

Speaking of fire, I can feel myself blushing so hard I'm worried I might burst into flame.

My bestie tilts her head when she sees me blushing then her eyes open wide.

"Oh. My. God. Terra-- What.Happened? You did get caught in the shed last night, didn't you?"

Shaking my head vigorously to the negative doesn't faze her.

"Hawkins caught you in the shed, that's why you got home so late. That's why you didn't answer my texts. Did something happen?ohmygosh it did."

Zephyr and I have been friends since kindergarten, despite being on opposite sides of the grandmother rift. There weren't a lot of other girls our age on the Ridge when we were growing up and we both have too many brothers that are too much older than us.

Even if the Harts have a totally different family dynamic going on than we do-- Zephyr and I get each other.

She's only working for me till I get the daycare center established enough to hire someone, then she wants to go into floral design. She's been putting off a sweet apprenticeship opportunity in Slow River so she can help me out here.

"You have to tell me." Her whisper is accusatory and a little hurt and I feel bad for not filling her in but...

"Are you still a virgin?" The sound is completely out of her voice but it's easy to read her lips for that question.

"Yes!For fuck's sake, of course I am." I mouth back at her, both of us slide our eyes over the three young ones that are continuing to play across the room.

Zephyr has about the same amount of sexual experience as I do--did-- and we've always promised to tell each other about any new experiences right away. So I get why she's upset with me and all but it's different than I thought it would be.

I thought we'd have high school boyfriends and stumble through all our firsts around the same time. I pictured us laughing about how awkward and clueless boys were-- now I'm feeling kinda possessive about my experiences.

I'm feeling possessive aboutHawk.

Thankfully, the door opens and both Ginger Jones and Hyacinth McAllister walk in together. It's obvious they were talking about something serious but as soon as they walk in, they both rush to scoop up toddlers while Hye's oldest, Rose, rushes to tell her mom about the day we had.

"I'm so sorry we're late," Ginger tells us, "Current had to go pick his grandmother up at the station and I had to wait till I had a break before I could leave the brewery. I should have texted, but I didn't know it was going to take this long."

"Yeah, Ash is picking Alice up at the station too," Hyacinth explains.

"Oh no! I have to go," Zephyr's phone chimes in her pocket and when she checks the message, she's gathering her things quickly, "Raine says Grandma needs to be picked up too."

"At the sheriff's station?"
