“Break it,” Thomas repeated, tilting his head into Seong’s hand. “What do you mean?”

“I mean you are going to use it like you intended,” Seong explained, “then in ways you didn’t intend until you either find a bug to fix or are satisfied that there are no bugs.” He shrugged. “There are usually bugs, particularly with this being the first program you’ve made from scratch. Don’t be surprised. My first attempts were practically unusable, but you have a far better grasp on all of this than I did. If you hit a bug that you can’t figure out, give me a call and I’ll help you troubleshoot. Get you pointed in the right direction.” He smiled, his hand against Thomas’s cheek. “I’m proud of you, Thomas,” he said, staring into his eyes. “You did an amazing job.”

Thomas smiled at him, touching the back of Seong’s hand.

Seong pulled his hand away, clearing his throat. “But we are running out of time before you have to be at dinner,” he pointed out, glancing towards the windows where it was getting dark. “Let’s get you set up so you can get testing.”

“There you are,” Kevin called, grinning.

Thomas huffed, sliding into the chair between Danny and Mark. “Sorry the bus took forever.” He shoved his backpack under the table, so it would only be in his way.

Danny’s jaw clenched and he reached under the table to take Thomas’s hand, squeezing it tightly. “Can I talk to you a second,” he whispered, getting up from the table without waiting for an answer.

Thomas frowned at Danny, then at Mark who shrugged, looking just as confused as Thomas felt. But he followed Danny towards the bathrooms, tapping his watch when it started to buzz. Oh, he thought, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. Kissing.

But Danny didn’t pull him into a bathroom stall like Thomas assumed to steal a little make out session. Instead he let go and turned to face Thomas once they were well out of sight of the tables. “Where were you?” he asked, folding his arms.

Blinking, Thomas looked Danny up and down. “I just said the bus-”

“No, I mean why didn’t you come to the signing,” Danny asked him, frowning like a kicked puppy.

Thomas, rather than feeling bad about the look, stared at Danny like he had grown a second head. “Because you told me not to?”

Danny opened his mouth, then closed it, his lips thinning. “Yeah, but you should have come-”

A nerve pulsed in Thomas’s temple. “How was I suppose to know that when you told me not to,” he interrupted. “I asked you weeks ago and double checked all the details and you never once said I could come.”

“I- You should have known-”

“H-How,” Thomas demanded. “H-How w-was I supposed to know?” His watch vibrated and he hit the face with his palm to stop it, feeling it turn off. “W-well?”

“I- You just should have,” he said, his hands tightening on his arms.

“S-so I’m supposed to read your m-mind,” Thomas asked him, feeling his hands shake. “I-is that it?”

“Everyone knows S.O.s come to events like these,” Danny snapped at him.

“I don’t,” Thomas snapped back at him. “That’s why I asked you when someone mentioned it! And what did you say?” He waited, watching Danny’s face go red. His watch buzzed again. One minute, he thought grimly, tapping his watch again.

“Who is texting you,” Danny blurted out, glaring at Thomas’s wrist.

A sensation of floating came over Thomas as he stared at Danny in disbelief. Then he huffed. “It’s not a text,” he said softly. “It’s my app. I finished it.”

Danny’s eyes shot up, widening in shock and horror. “You- But you only started working on it-”

“And today I finished it,” Thomas spat then sighed. “It’s not completely ready. I need to run tests on it. But yeah, it’s done.” He pursed his lips as Danny continued to stare at him. “I was going to tell you about it later. Seeing as this is your day and all. But, now you know.” He huffed, looking away. “Next time you want me to be somewhere, just fucking tell me, Danny. I’m going to go wash my hands.”

“Thomas,” Danny said, trying to take his hand.

Thomas pulled away from him, heading into the bathroom. “It’s fine. I’ll see you at the table in a minute.”

Apologize

“Alright, I’ll bite,” Sean said suddenly, breaking the silence at the table. “What the hell is your problem?”

Danny blinked, looking up at his brother. “What do you mean? I don’t have a problem.”
