I know him. I know him better than anyone, and if I tell him I’m planning to leave Cedar Point to ‘follow him’, he’ll tell me not to. He doesn’t want me to have to sacrifice what I want for what he wants, but that’s not what I’m doing. Not at all. And I know I’ll need to tell him in person for him to believe me.

So, I make my plans. I find a ceramic studio that rents workspaces a few miles away from Bishop’s apartment. I begin to pack. I wrap up my projects and notify my clients that I’m taking a temporary break from work.

Yesterday, Leah and I filled a moving van, and she began her drive. This morning, I got on a plane and flew across the country, intending to move to a small town I’ve never been to before.

I can’t remember ever being so nervous and so excited at the same time.

I glance down at my phone as I pull to a stop in the parking lot outside Bishop’s.

Nicole: Miss you already. His dick better be worth it.

Laughing, I chuck my phone into my purse. Leave it to my best friend to make it about sex.

I enter the lobby and head up to the fourth floor then walk down a long hallway toward the end, until I reach unit 42. Bishop told me it felt lucky because it was Jackie Robinson’s number, and I smile at that thought as I knock on the door.

“Just a second!” I hear from the other side.

Nerves race through me, and I let out a long, slow breath.

When the door opens, Bishop blinks in surprise. I barely give him a moment to try to figure out what’s going on before I’m launching myself at him, pressing my lips to his.

“What are you doing here?” he asks, holding me tightly against his chest. “When we talked this morning, you said you were getting coffee with Nicole.”

I pull back, unable to hide the smile stretching wide across my face. “It was a complete lie. I was hiding in the shitty coffee place at the airport trying to make sure you couldn’t hear the airline announcements.”

He chuckles then presses his lips against mine again, backing us into the apartment and kicking the door closed.

“God, I’m so glad to see you,” he says. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you too.”

“I’m sorry I’ve been so busy.”

I pull back, grinning mischievously. “I know how you can make it up to me.”

Twenty minutes later, we collapse on the couch, each of us panting. I feel like I could float away on a cloud, but Bishop looks only mildly satiated. Jacking in the shower almost every morning and trying to fit in the odd phone sex session here and there has been rough on him, I’m sure.

He leans over and kisses me then hops up, tugs on his shorts, and disappears into what I’m assuming is a bedroom, returning a beat later with a blanket that he wraps me in snugly before tucking me in against his side.

“I can’t believe you’re here,” he says, pressing his lips against my forehead. “I thought you weren’t coming for another two weeks.”

We originally decided I’d come out to visit for the first few games of the season, before Bishop and his team start traveling nearly every other week. Apparently spring training is pretty grueling, so we agreed it would be better for me to wait until the official season had begun so we could enjoy that first week. He’d be playing, sure, but we’d still get time together here.

Now, though, Bishop is about to find out things are going to be completely different than we planned.

“Well, that was what we talked about…originally,” I tell him, a bit of nervousness beginning to filter in.

“So what’s the plan now?” He smiles at me. “How long are you staying?”

I lick my lips. “Well…technically…that’s up to your coach.”

His brow furrows. “What do you mean?”

“I mean…I’m staying here until you leave, until you get traded or called up or…” I trail off and shrug a shoulder.

Bishop sits up straight, surprise evident in every line of his face. “You mean…”

“I mean…” I continue, sitting up as well and wrapping my arms around his neck. “I’m moving. Here. So I hope you have a king size bed.”
