It gives me a kick of hope that he’s been feeling the same pull toward me all day as well.

Easing up after a few minutes, I rest my forehead against his, my breaths coming out in pants, my entire body ready to hop into bed and get the party started.

There’s something I need to say first, but before I get the words out, Jackson speaks.

“Did you see outside?”

I pull my head back, my brow furrowed. “No.”

He bites his lip and motions toward the window. Curious, I step out of his embrace and cross the room, a gasp falling from between my lips when I pull back the curtain and catch a glimpse of the white outside. A blanket of snow covers the ground in large patches and dusts the branches of the trees that stretch high into the darkened sky. But that beautiful, brilliant white catches the light of the moon and glows like something magical.

“I thought you said it normally doesn’t snow here until January,” he says, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist.

“That’s because normally it doesn’t.” Pressing a hand against the window, I smile. “I can’t even remember the last time it snowed on Christmas.”

We stand there in silence for a long moment, each of us watching the flurries of white as they drift to the ground.

“I talked to my brother,” I finally say, turning away from the window and looking up into Jackson’s eyes. “I told him that who I want to sleep with…who I want to date or see or whatever…is up to me, and if that included you, it was my business.”

He tugs me closer. “When was that?”

“Last night.”

“What did he say?” he asks, grinning at me.

I shrug a shoulder. “Basically just that he’s protective of me and remembers you being a playboy back in college.”

That wipes Jackson’s smile clean off his face. “I was, but I’m not anymore. It’s been a long time since—”

I put a hand over his mouth and shake my head.

“You don’t have to explain yourself. I’m just telling you what my brother said.”

He shakes his head, dislodging my hand. “I talked to your brother too.”

My eyes widen in surprise. “What? When?”

“This morning, on the dock. I told him…” He pauses. “I told him I like you and I would never hurt you, no matter what happens.”

A small smile comes across my face. “And what did he say?”

“Basically, he said we’re adults and could do what we want. Then he said he’d like to threaten me but that you could handle yourself.”

I snort, loving how well my brother knows me.

“So what we’re saying is basically that we each got my brother’s permission to have sex.”

Jackson’s nose wrinkles and his lips scrunch up in displeasure. “Well that settles it—no sex tonight.”

I burst into laughter, knowing it’s probably loud enough to be heard through the door but choosing not to care.

“We can always have sex tomorrow instead,” I tell him, slipping my hands underneath his sleep shirt and spreading my palms against his warm back. “I’m moving into my place with Briar a few days early.”

“Oh yeah?”

I nod. “Rusty paid our landlord for an extra week so he could move the furniture in. That means I can start taking things over tomorrow morning.”

“Won’t you want to spend your first nights in your new place with your friend?” he asks, groaning slightly as I pop up to my toes and kiss his neck.
