“All right, lovebirds,” I say, tucking my hair behind my ears and hopping off my stool. “Wish me luck and a night of fun.”

“Be safe,” Andy says. “Text Briar a picture of his license if you leave with him.”

“And his penis if you see it,” Briar adds, a big smile on her face and her eyes glassy as she leans into Andy.

“Yeah, good luck with her tonight,” I tell him. “She gets feisty when she drinks.”

“I’ve noticed,” he says, amusement coloring his voice.

Giving my friends a quick wave, I pick up the quarter and head off into the crowd, skirting around throngs of people to get to the other side of the room.

When I finally make it over there, I see the man of the hour leaning forward, his hands on his glass of beer as he twists it back and forth on the table between flat palms. Before I even have another second to think through what I want to say, he looks up, his eyes colliding with mine.

I register his surprise first, though it flickers across his face for only a second before that delicious smile from earlier returns. Just that look alone propels me forward until I’m across the table from him.

I take the quarter and set it down next to his glass, making the same loud slap noise he made when he set it down in front of me just a short while ago.

And then I say the most flirtatious thing I can manage to come up with, officially setting my good-girl hat on the shelf for the evening.

“I’m here to collect, if you’re in for a little fun.”

chapter two

Abby

Confident. Sexy. Playful.

That’s the vibe I want to give off to the tall stranger I’m hoping to leave with tonight. My efforts feel somewhat stiff, but he doesn’t seem to notice if the way his eyes drop and give me a once-over is anything to go by.

They scan me from top to bottom. From the little black boots that pop me up a few extra inches, over my tight skinny jeans and long-sleeved wrap top, and then finally back to my eyes. I’m thankful I put a bit of extra effort into my look tonight, my long hair falling in loose waves in a way I know frames my heart-shaped face just right.

His entire perusal only takes a few seconds, but it sure does feel like it happens in slow motion on this end.

“That’s cute,” he says, eyeing me with unrestrained interest. “Can I buy you a drink?”

I shake my head. “Thanks, but I already had one tonight.”

He watches me, his eyes sharp and attentive. “And one’s your limit?”

“It is if I’m planning to go home with someone.” I give him my own up and down to fully take everything in. Dark boots, gray pants, blue sweater. Simple, classy, and damn sexy. “Gotta keep my wits about me.”

His eyes drop to the table, and I catch him biting his lip as he picks up the quarter I set in front of him, tapping it against the wood a few times before returning those beautiful blues to me.

He’s beyond attractive in a way they just don’t make ’em around here, with a suave kind of sureness that can only come from a lifetime of getting exactly what he wants. Does it make me crazy to say I’m fairly confident he could ask me for practically anything and I’d give it to him?

Maybe.

But I’m trying to break the rules tonight, so being kind of crazy is certainly acceptable. Encouraged, even.

“You from around here?” he asks.

I nod. “Born and raised, which is why I know you’re not from around here.”

“That would be correct.”

God, just talking to him is its own aphrodisiac. The man has one of those dimples in the side of his cheek, and it flexes and disappears every time he smiles. And the way his voice vibrates, hitting just the right timbre to send goose bumps skittering along the back of my neck and down my spine…is enough to make me want to throw caution to the wind.

“So, what brings you to Cedar Point?”
