“Perfect,” Vanessa said. “Can I hold my newest grandson now?”

“Of course.” Caleb lifted Connor from the bed and placed him in Vanessa’s arms. “By the way, Theresa, my parents called. They’ve arrived, and they’re settled into their hotel. They’re bringing dinner over this evening.”

“Oh, I’m glad. It’ll be great to see them again.” Theresa’s gaze went to Vanessa. “You’re going to love them, Mom. They’re really nice. Caleb’s entire family is great.”

“I’m sure I will. Jake, Carol and their kids will be here tomorrow,” Vanessa said as she gazed lovingly at Connor. “They booked a nearby condo.”

“I know.” She sighed happily. “Carol told me they were coming when we called to let them know Connor had arrived.”

Caleb’s phone began to vibrate, and he took it out of his pocket. “It’s our manager,” he told her as he hit accept. “Hey, we’re about to take our son home.” He grinned at Theresa. “I’m going to put you on speaker. Theresa is right next to me.”

“First, congratulations on the birth of your little boy,” Mary said. “Sorry to interrupt, but I thought you’d want to hear this right away.”

Caleb took a seat on the hospital chair. “Go ahead, Mary.”

“I have wonderful news,” she said. “I just got word from the Grammy committee. My True North has been nominated for best album of the year! Congratulations, you two.”

“Oh, wow.” Theresa’s gaze met his. “That’s amazing!”

Caleb leaned forward and reached for her hand. “That’s great. Thanks for letting us know.”

Dr. Grant entered the room then, followed by a nurse pushing a wheelchair. “We’ve got to go, Mary,” Caleb said. “The doctor is here. We’ll talk again soon.”

“All right. You’re still my favorite clients. Talk to you later,” Mary said, ending the call.

Caleb rose from the chair. “I’m going to the nurses’ station to give them Connor’s full name.”

“No need,” the nurse said. “You can give it to me, and I’ll make sure it’s added to baby McGee’s records.”

After writing Connor’s name on Theresa’s chart, Caleb gathered the boys and her overnight bag. Once Theresa had been settled into the wheelchair, her mother handed Connor to her, and the nurse wheeled her out of the room. The next several days would be filled with visitors wanting to meet Connor, including her husband’s support group, and his former neighbor, Dottie Mordan. They’d all played a part in bringing her and Caleb together, and she and Caleb were determined to remain close to all of them.

Her band members had thrown a baby shower for them, and they’d show up to meet Connor too. They were on break, and she looked forward to seeing her friends again.

Theresa reached for Caleb’s hand as he walked beside the wheelchair. “Just think, Caleb, two years ago, you stopped by to talk me out of quitting the music industry.”

“Hmm.” His tender gaze met hers. “I never could have imagined my life would take such a drastic and wonderful turn.”

“Me either, but I’m so glad it did.”

They’d both been given a second chance at love and happiness, and they’d both sworn never to take what they had for granted. In fact, they’d even written that into their wedding vows. She and her husband faced each new day and each new challenge with gratitude for the gift of happily ever after they’d been granted. Caleb was her true north, and he referred to her as his North Star, and they’d always look to each other to guide their path through this life together.
