He smiled, touching my lower lip with his thumb. "’They're already broken, sugar. So why don't we just keep breaking them?"

Chapter Eighteen

Scarlett

"I didn’t even know you could look sexy in fishing gear. But it's your superpower to just look sexy in anything, isn't it?" I asked. He was wearing khakis, but somehow he made them work.

He laughed and kissed my forehead. "Are you ready to go?"

I nodded. "You don't have to drive me."

"Sugar, indulge me."

"Don’t people usually go fishing very early in the morning?"

"They've been there since five o'clock, but I couldn’t leave you in my bed all on your own. In fact," he said, stepping closer, "I'm having second thoughts about going at all."

"You can't bail on them."

“A commitment is a commitment.”That’s what my dad used to tell me when I was younger. It built character. He was right.

He nodded, taking a deep breath. "You're right."

"Okay, then. Let's go," I prodded because Chad was starting to get a sexy glint in his eyes. I knew that meant he was planning to undress me.

I had pep in my step as I walked to the car. Once inside, I realized I hadn't checked if I had everything I needed in my bag. Then again, I didn't even take a lot of stuff out last night, but you never knew. Locating my phone, I noticed a missed call.

"Funny. I have a missed call from a number I didn't save. It doesn't look like spam, though." I handed it to him. "Do you know if it's the restaurant or something?"

He glanced at the screen. "That's Isabeau."

I startled. "How would she even have my number?"

Chad laughed as the car moved forward. "You're joking, right? My grandmother is a force of nature. She gets whatevershe wants. Your number wouldn’t even be that difficult to find. It’s in our HR files."

"What do you think she wants?"

"No idea. Call and check."

I felt slightly uncomfortable with the idea of having a conversation with Chad's grandmother, but it would be rude to ignore her, so I called her back.

"Good morning, Scarlett. This is Isabeau."

"Hi, Isabeau."

"I hope you don't mind that I asked around for your number."

"Not at all. How can I help you?"

"Celine and I are at the store. We were wondering if you have any free time today. We'd love for you to stop by."

I glanced at Chad, who’d clearly overheard what his grandmother said. I mouthed, "Would that be okay?"

He nodded.

"Sure," I said into the phone.

"Excellent," she replied.
