“Won’t you?”

“Haven’t you?” I shot, all levity gone. “Don’t go throwing stones, Hanky. And don’t be pissed she’s with me—you had your shot for a decade. Finders, keepers.”

I didn’t expect him to lunge at me with his fist flying, but I managed to dodge him just the same. Truth be told, I did feel a little bad. But mostly, I wanted to take a swing of my own.

Honestly, I hadn’t expected him to care so much.

I put up my hands and stepped back as a couple of guys wrangled Henry. “Hey, man—I’m sorry. But look, you’re not with her, and she’s a grown woman. She can make her own decisions.”

Henry raked a hand through his hair, his eyes still a little wild. “Fuck you.”

Davis’s jaw was set, his eyes narrow as he stepped between us. “Maybe you should go, Remy.”

I sighed. “Yeah, maybe I should.”

“What happened?” Cass said from my elbow.

Henry pointed at me. “He needs to be taught a fucking lesson.”

“Ugh, Remy! Get!” She shooed me to the door like she was my mama and dragged me outside with Jessa on our heels.

Cass didn’t let me go until we were on the sidewalk. I rubbed my ear sullenly while she went off on me.

The gist of it was that I was an asshole, which I was, and that I should be ashamed of myself, which I also was. When she’d finally gotten it out, she sighed, drooping. She looked exhausted. My brows drew together in concern.

“You kissed her?” she yelled. “What the fuck, Remy!”

“It was just to?—”

“Make Henry jealous? I wish I believed that was all you wanted. What I didn’t expect was for you to kiss him back,” she said to Jessa.

“Cass, really! It was only to make Henry angry, and look—it worked! He’s furious. Absolutely mad with jealousy.”

The way I hated hearing the words from her mouth ate me up from the inside.

Cass glowered, folding her arms. “That’s true.”

“Cass, please, don’t be mad. I’m sorry,” I offered, trying to pull her into a hug, but she flailed like an octopus and pushed me.

“Not now, Remy. Okay?”

“Okay,” I said quietly.

“Is there anything I can do?” Jessa looked distraught.

“No,” Cass said, taking her hand. “I’m sorry. It’s just been a lot, and Henry throwing punches in The Horseshoe wasn’t on my Bingo card.”

“Was me kissing Duchess on it? ‘Cause?—”

“Remy, shut up!” they said in unison.

“Okay, okay.”

“I’ll come back in with you,” Jessa said, but Cass shook her head.

“Honestly, I was ready to go home before dinner. Y’all go. It’ll piss Henry off more if you leave together anyway.”

Jessa nodded obediently and they shared a hug. When they parted, Cass lasered in on me, pointing a finger I was certain cast spells.
