“I want details.” She snapped her fingers. “Details!”

We jogged through a group of young men who were in the process of stripping out of their wetsuits after a morning surf. Their wet bodies glistened in the early morning sunshine. The smells of sunscreen and saltwater on their smoking hot bodies perfectly complemented my sinful thoughts.

I waited until the men were long out of earshot before I spoke. “This time, it was a guy named Billy. He’d fallen asleep in the bar, and I found him when I did my rounds at three o’clock in the morning.”

“And?”

Shit, she’s an impatient woman.

“Aaaaaaand . . .” I dragged the word out. “I went back to his room after my shift and said the same things I did last week to George.”

“And you pleasured yourself again?”

She said the word ‘pleasured’ like she had a plum in her mouth, and I burst out laughing. “Hey!” I gave her a jab with my elbow.

“It’s your word, babe. Not mine. So, tell me about this Billy.”

We rounded a corner and took the raised wooden pathway down to the beach. The wind was in my face, licking the sweat off my forehead and nose like a thirsty cat.

I pictured my cowboy. Denim jeans that fell open at the zipper to reveal Calvin Klein jocks. Bulging biceps. Hair the color of expensive brandy. Sexy dimples that punctuated his cheeks when he smiled. “Billy was hot, smoking hot. He had an incredible smile.”

“You and your fixation on a man’s smile.”

“What’s wrong with that?” The toes of my shoes sunk into the sand, and I carefully laid every step to avoid getting sand in the back of my heels. “I’m attracted to a man with a great smile.”

“Yes, yes, but what was his cock like?”

“Lolita!” I shoved her sideways, but she didn’t miss a beat and kept on running.

“I told you; I want details.” Lolly’s long blonde ponytail swished from side to side as she jogged along the sinking sand like an expert.

“I’m not telling you about that.” I wouldn’t know where to start when it came to describing a man’s dick. “I think he’s a cowboy or something.” I diverted the subject.

Lolita wrinkled her nose at me. “A cowboy? On the Gold Coast? Weird.”

“That’s what I thought. But he had a cowboy hat and boots. And the way he wore his jeans, oh Lordy, talk about hot.”

Lolly laughed. “Now that’s more like it. So, you’ve managed to seduce two men in two weeks. I bet you can’t do it again this week.”

Something about her bet excited me. Could I do it again? I found it hard to comprehend that I’d done it once, let alone twice. I don’t know what’s come over me. But even though I cringed, I couldn’t deny how thrilling it was. “A challenge, is it?”

We slowed as we neared a rocky outcrop and stopped to use a giant sandstone boulder to stretch our legs.

“I think it’s a great challenge. You’re showing me a new side of Jane, and I like what I see.”

As I massaged my burning calf muscles, I stewed over Lolita’s proposition. I’ve been known to back down from a challenge. I was never that girl. The one who took risks. Plain Jane never stepped out of her comfort zone.

Until now.

What I’d done during the last two weeks shocked the hell out of me, yet I was also proud of it. “I’m going to take you up on that challenge, girlfriend.”

“Fuck yeah!” Lolly’s grin showed off her perfect white teeth. Then she grew all serious. “But remember, babe, I want details.”

From the moment I accepted Lolly’s challenge, I was obsessed with finding my next man. As foolish as it was, I felt like her challenge was not-negotiable. Failure was not an option. I scrutinized every man who walked through the Hot Horizon Hotel like a detective searching for a guilty party.

Except I was the guilty one.

For the first time in my life, riding on the edge of risqué excited me. Previously, stepping out of my comfort zone would have scared the crap out of me. Just the idea that someone could recognize me in my alter-ego disguise would’ve had me cowering in a corner.
