“I need to get the houseready,” he said. “And kick out Gideon. I’ll help him find a placeto live, but I can’t cast a spell for my truemate and then tell herto suck it up when it comes to me having a roommate.”

“Good plan,” his grandmasaid. “If you need anything, let us know.”

“Just all the good vibesyou can send my way.”

“You got it,” his grandpasaid.

After finishing lunch, he said goodbyeto his grandparents and headed to their portal to return to his ownhome, to tell his roommate that he had a month to find a new placeto live, because Kash had just decided to take charge of hisfuture, starting with finding his truemate.

Chapter Two

Isabelle Sullivan stoodhuddled at the end of the driveway and watched for the school busto drop off two of the three kids she nannied for. Toddler Faithwas making a snow angel on the grass next to Bella, oblivious tothe cold. Bella was certainly not oblivious to the cold, because itwas freaking frosty outside, the inch of late March snow had reallymessed with her ability to wear the cute leggings outfit she’dpicked out the night before, and instead went with fleece joggersand a thick sweater.

Winter in southernKentucky could either be a warm paradise or a bitterly coldnightmare, and right now they were in the middle of a snowynightmare.

Not that Faith minded.

Her little wolf ears picked up thesound of the bus before Bella’s did.

“Here! Fanks and Ols here!”She struggled to get up from the snow, and Bella reached over andpulled her to her feet.

“Yep, the bus is comingwith Frankie and Ollie. Then we’ll have hot chocolate and play aboard game.”

Faith jumped up and down, her littlenose pink with the cold. “Yay!”

Bella had been nannyingfor a high-ranked wolf pack couple since the summer of her junioryear of high school. She loved it so much, she’d decided to forgocollege and nanny full-time. Her parents liked that she stayedclose to home and enjoyed her job. Her younger brother, Chris, wasplanning to follow in their alpha dad’s footsteps and take over thepack someday, but in the meantime, he worked at their GrandpaJake’s bar in town. She sometimes helped out at the bar when hergrandpa had someone cancel last-minute, but her dad didn’t like herat the bar because drunk wolves could lose their inhibitions and henever wanted her to be in a position to need to defendherself.

Because she reallycouldn’t.

She was full wolf, withwolf parents, but hadn’t ever been able to shift. She might be ableto throw a punch because her dad had insisted she know how to fightin her human form, but she would be no match for a full-grown malewolf who wanted to hurt her. Her grandpa had been alpha before herdad took over, and he would never let anyone hurt her, but she alsoknew that shit happened, and it was better to be smart than runningfor her life from a drunk wolf.

The bus squeaked to a stop in front ofthe driveway and the door swung open, drawing her thoughts back tothe present.

The seven-year-old twins leaped fromthe bus and raced to hug Faith. Bella waved at the bus driver andturned, ushering the kids into the house for hot chocolate withlots of marshmallows, a board game, and then homework.

“Did you guys have funtoday?” she asked.

They both talked over eachother, filling her in on all the tea at the small packschool.

By the time she’d made dinner and fedthe kids, the parents were home from work.

“How were they?” Vanessaasked as Mike made a beeline for the family room to watch the newsas he did every night.

“Awesome, ofcourse.”

“Do you have plans for theweekend?”

“Tonight I’m meeting myfriend at the Were-Alliance mixer in Somerset.”

“Oh? You’ve mentioned thatbefore. What’s it about?”

“It’s a place for shiftersand humans to hang out in a non-pressure setting. There’s a bar anddance floor with a DJ. I’ve been going for a few months, and I metKinley who belongs to another pack. She’s really sweet.”

“Sounds fun. Any guysworthwhile there?”

She hummed. “There have been somegood-looking guys, but the minute they find out I can’t shift, theywalk away.”

“Maybe finding yourtruemate will actually trigger your wolf,” she offered. “Maybe it’snot that you can’t, but the timing and circumstances aren’tright.”
