“You are the single most important person in this room. In our lives. We waited not because it was a game to us. Or that you are some conquest. We waited because we wanted you to have time to figure out who you were before we strolled in and took over. I know we can be a lot.”

I smile softly. “A bit.”

Alaric slides in to take Marco’s place. “And we will never apologize for being who we are with you. Possessive, protective.” His lips brush over mine. “Hungry to have you.”

“Is that all though? Where do I stand? Behind you? Unseen like my brother wants?”

Darkness flashes over his expression. “Not for a fucking minute. Wolfe loves you in his warped way. We can understand that. He’s hurt by the loss of your parents. He doesn’t want to lose you too. He’ll come around to see he can’t put you in a room and lock the door. And if he doesn’t, we’ll make sure he does.”

“Please don’t hurt him.” Though I’d like to loosen a few teeth for him at the moment.

Marco slings a heavy shoulder up in a shrug. “He could use a couple of knocks on that stubborn chin.”

All three caress, kiss and comfort me. Ryth sinks his finger into my hair and massages my scalp. Marco twines our fingers together and Alaric. The man can kiss. Damn, can he kiss. He’s slow and deliberate when his tongue sweeps over my lips. He silently asks me to open for him and I give in. We groan together and lose ourselves in each other’s warmth. I pull back and settle into Ryth’s waiting arms. “Will he be okay? Wherever he is at, doing whatever he is doing.”

All three look at each other and then back at me.

“What do you know about what he does for us?”

“Nothing. He’s kept me in the pitch-black for four years.”

Alaric leads me to the bed. Oh boy. A look crosses over their expressions. Worry is there, but so is a certain level of fear.

“I won’t judge you for what you do. I am aware you don’t always color inside the lines. And that man in the basement. I know he had to have done something to deserve the ending you gave him.”

“Let us explain. We’re not the monsters we might seem at times.”

They spend the next half hour filling me in on how they work with the Men of Genesis to operate in the same territory. They’ve allied with the three men who make my men not only stronger but more protected. Because of that alliance, my brother was requested to help take down a ring of brothers helping the Bratva traffic women.

I cup a hand over my mouth. “Those poor women and girls. And that man in your basement? He was part of the people responsible for all the missing girls?”

“And looking for you.”

My eyes go wide. “Me? How did he even know about me?”

“Good question. We didn’t get the chance to ask him. The second he put your name on his lips he was dead.”

The news of why the man died hits me hard. But what settles heavily in the pit of my stomach is what he did to women. Girls. He destroyed lives and families.

“Did they kidnap women here in Chicago?”

Alaric nods. “And in New York City. Probably other cities too. He and his brothers are the ones kidnapping and selling them to the Bratva who in turn sell them on the black market to some very rich and powerful people. It’s a whole web with many threads.”

I walk to the window and look out at a waking city. Women going about their daily lives one second only to find themselves snatched out of their lives in another.

“We have to do something.” I go to grab my clothes, but Marco is there, taking my hands in his.

“Whoa. We are, sweet thing. Wolfe is infiltrating the ring and with the help of a biker gang they will no longer pose a threat come nightfall.”

“While we stand back and do nothing?” My gaze swings to each of them in turn.

“The fewer people involved, the less likely someone will get tipped off. Trust us. This isn’t the first time we’ve done this.”

Marco makes sense but my get-up-and-go disposition gets the better of me.

“Trust us. Please.” Ryth’s tone turns soothing, pleading.

I take a deep breath. “I do. I just don’t do well sitting on the sidelines.”
