But what did Everett mean about finding a way around Otherkin tech? And who is their enemy?

Maybe whatever Everett has shields me from my friends?

Dammit. Okay, think.

I shimmy my arms so they’re no longer held behind me. One problem solved.

Now, let’s see about Everett. I only have one chance to get this right, so I need to make this count.

Everything you ever wanted is on the other side of fear.

I take a deep breath, centering myself like the meditation guides tell me to do. And while Everett’s attention is drawn to a large spot of red in the sky, I snake my hands over his headrest, catching the ziptie around my wrists just under his jaw line. I pull up and back, cutting off the air in his windpipe.

I did it!

My celebration is short lived as Everett swerves the car wildly. I hold on even more.

Chapter Sixteen

TEXT MESSAGE

Torben

We have a problem.

I glare at the message from Vane. He will be the one with the problem if he does not arrive at the house. Val assigned him to assess the scope of the landscape work.

The snows won’t melt by the time of the gala, but they will once the weather turns in a few weeks.

I promised Val there would be no more sudden temperature changes.

I’m typing my response, when another text comes through.

Everett Young—spotted. But then disappeared. Jammer.

Val’s scent on the wind. No eyes on.

We’re tracking her now. Lucky in the air.

The phone in my hand disintegrates as the snow beast rushes forth. I let my primal self carry me aloft while I focus on Val. I follow the path she took. Know she’s headed toward her friend.

I feel her. She is still within the borders of the mist. I push toward her, gaining on her.

Galeforce winds howl behind me, pushing me forward. Sending me to my mate.

The connection between us grows thinner, dimmer. I no longer feel her pulsing in my veins.

Soon, her presence winks away from me.

I roar my rage and fury in that direction, calling down a blanketing wave of snow down the mountain.

SNOWFALL

Valiana

Snow blankets the world outside. Tor knows. He must know.
