“Definitely time for some food,” Knots says, rubbing his belly. He starts walking, and I quickly slip in beside him.

I haven’t had much time with him lately, and I’m a little worried about him. I check on his shield and realize that some areas are thinner than I originally had it. Fuck! I’ve been slacking, and honestly, I wasn’t thinking about it when I was with JP and Zeke. To make things worse, it’s not like I was concentrating while I was napping. I bite back my frustration and quickly reinforce his shield. He seems okay, but my brave Door Knight isn’t the type of person to bitch and complain about stuff. Nope, he’s the type that would hold it in and suffer in silence.

Right as I go to open my mouth to ask Knots how he’s feeling, I hear Reaper coming. His little paws scramble on the marble floors, and he tumbles across the entrance to our hall with something in his mouth. As he rolls to a stop, the object falls from his mouth, so he growls at it before picking it back up and running toward me.

I can’t make out what he has. From here, it just looks like a dark red or black ball. I wonder if Murmur gave it to him. His tail whips around in excitement and ends up tripping him as he reaches me. Plopping into me, his “ball” falls onto the floor with a wet plunk, and he looks up at me with the biggest eyes while his tongue lolls out of his mouth.

“Aww, you’re just so cute,” I coo, before looking over at the ball and immediately gagging.

“What’s the matter, Rez? He just wants to play fetch,” Lynx teases and swings his barefoot back to kick it.

“No!” I shoot my arm out, but it’s too late. My bestie kicks it and sends it rolling down the hallway. Reaper barks and chases after it.

“What the fuck!?” Lynx says, looking down at the blood and eyeball stuck to his big toe. “What was that?”

“Again, this is why you should wear shoes,” Knots reprimands, giving Lynx a deadpan look.

“Was that a head?” Moni asks as her bark turns a yellowish-green. She looks exactly how I feel right now.

“Yeah, but who did it belong to?” JP asks.

Levi steps in front of us and peeks down the hallway that Reaper had come from. He stands up straighter, messes with the lapels on his jacket, and slowly looks back at us with a clenched jaw.

“Lynx, you might want to get shoes.”

“Fuck, I hate foot prisons,” Lynx grumbles as he goes into the closest room for a pair of shoes.

I decide to put on my big girl panties and join Levi, and when I do, I wonder if I can conjure up a clean hall.

“What the hell? Is this what they meant by cleaning house?” I ask as I watch a different type of Demon—a pink crab-like creature with a pig nose and tail—dragging a headless body down the hall. Another Demon, this one with a feline head and tail but with daddy long-legs, skitters along the wall cleaning the blood off the walls and ceiling.

“Wow. They really did do some housecleaning. It’s almost spotless,” Moni says before taking a sip of her coffee.

Pools of blood line the halls as far as I can see, and I think dead Arte Demons are scattered everywhere. If this is cleaning house, I would hate to see what Moni would think of a dirty one. I feel something on my legs, and I look down to see that Reaper has returned. Now his front paws are up on my leggings—his bloody paws. This time, instead of a head in his mouth, he has someone’s dick.

“Eww. No. Reaper. Drop the dick!” I scream. I quickly pick him up and jostle him to make him drop it, but all it does is make him bite down harder and growl. Fluid, which I refuse to diagnose, flies out of the end of it and sails into Moni’s hair.

“Ahh!!” Moni screams as she turns magenta. She turns to look at Chester wide-eyed as her hands flap in the air. “It’s in my hair! It’s in my hair! Chester, get it. It’s in my hair. Save me!” She cries as her bark starts to cycle through her colors.

“Ahh, fuck no,” JP says as he notices it too. “Hit the deck,” he yells as he drops to the ground. But right when he says that, Reaper drops the severed dick onto my arm. The yellowish-blue liquid is still dribbling out of it, and I fling my arm out, accidentally hitting Moni as she turns, knocking her out cold. Luckily Knots catches Moni’s cup of coffee before it spills to the floor.

“What did you do?” Chester accuses me as he kneels down to check on her.

I hug Reaper against me until he starts licking my face, and knowing what he just had in his mouth, I drop him. He’s a big boy, he can handle the fall.

“I saved you,” I said confidently. “Now Levi can clean her cum-stained hair and you can take the credit. Simple. You can thank me now.”

I look at Levi, and nod toward my bestie that’s knocked out on the floor, and he slowly shakes his head as he tries not to smile but fails. He quickly magics her clean and comes over to me and does the same to my arm before stepping in close and grabbing my chin. “You’re lucky you mean the world to me,” he says, and kisses me briefly.

“Wh-what happened?” Moni says as Levi steps back.

Before anyone else can say anything, Chester leans over and kisses her gently. “I saved you, darling. You’re safe, and the liquid is off of you.” He looks up at me.

“Oh, did I faint?” she asks.

Oh, of course she had to ask. I’ll take the bullet.

“You went down like a rock,” I comment, completely fudging the truth.
