While I was out rounding everyone up, which was hard given the late hour, Zeke had completely transformed the room to a mini theater. The fireplace is gone, and in its place is a TV screen, taking up the entire wall. Two smaller loveseats are sitting in the front, and a longer couch is toward the back. Off to the right, Zeke is sitting at a computer desk, where he looks right at home behind the monitors.
Zeke and I are the only ones still dressed in our day wear. Moni was dressed in a light-yellow baby doll until JP screamed something about going blind and threw a robe at her. So now she and Chester are wearing matching silver robes and are cuddled up in one of the loveseats. Levi is dressed in, I kid you not, blue suitjamas that match JP’s silk pants. They would make another cute couple if they were cuddling in the other loveseat in the front. My shirtless men, Knox, Ryker, Lynx, and Knots, are on the big sofa with an opening between Ryker and Lynx, which I happily squeeze into.
Once we’re all seated, Levi addresses the room. “Okay, since we’re all here now, can you please inform us why you’ve summoned us?”
Internally cringing, I realize I might not have told them anything besides to hurry up and get to my room, stat. I do appreciate the fact that he doesn’t make me feel bad for not waiting to do this in the morning.
Zeke clears his throat. “Oh yeah. We can do that. Rez?” He gives me a cocky smile as he throws me under the bus.
That little ass!
I can’t be all that mad at him, though, so I stand back up and head to the front of the screen, trying not to drool at all the yummy male flesh in front of me. Levi gives me a small smile and his dimple pops out in his cheek. Without fail, Ryker’s eyes flash that electric blue, and I know he’s picking up on my lust. Okay, Rez, get your shit together.
I look over at Moni, and my lust dies like ice water being thrown on me, especially when I see her yawn.
“I’m sorry to pull you guys here when it’s so late, but I had forgotten what happened while Zeke was recovering.” Knots gives me an inquisitive look that flashes with suspicion, and I throw out my hands, trying to calm down the situation before my knight comes to my rescue when I don’t need it. “Before you go off the rails, just listen, okay?”
Reluctantly, Knots gives me a nod and relaxes back in his seat. “The reason we brought you in here is because Zeke and I want to look at the USB that Mayor Abernathy gave me as a more or less peace offering when he visited Zeke. He apologized for my treatment and his involvement in asking Zeke to spy on me, and he asked for my forgiveness.” I look around the group while they all give me blank stares, like I’m daft, and out of nervousness, I bite my bottom lip. “Okay then. Any questions?” I ask as I clap my hands and rock anxiously back and forth.
“Are you sure it was Abernathy? Like the real Abernathy?” Ryker asks with wide eyes.
“It was the same one that was in the apartment that day when you walked by,” I answer.
“What’s a UBS? Unbelievable Bully Secrets? Is that what we’re going to find?” Moni asks, bouncing up and down in her seat.
I can’t help but chuckle. “Moni, I love you.”
“It’s a USB. It stands for Universal Serial Bus, and it holds digital information. Supposedly, it has video footage of Rez coming to Purgatory and her questioning, so we’re going to watch together,” Zeke explains while I take a seat.
I get comfortable as Zeke fiddles with something. We hear a sizzle, and the lights flicker and Zeke cusses. “FUCK!”
Simultaneously, everyone asks if he’s okay or if he needs anything.
“Nah, I’m fine, but it looks like we’re in for a treat, though.”
“What do you mean?” Chester asks, pushing up his glasses and pulling Moni closer into his body.
“It looks like the USB is spelled. Levi?” Zeke beckons him over.
Levi runs his hands over the device as I watch his lips move soundlessly, nodding his head before walking back over to his seat. “It’s an immersion spell, so it looks like we’ll be seeing at least part of this from your perspective, Rez, since I picked up on your resonance coming off of it,” he explains before taking his seat once again.
“How is that possible since I don’t remember any of this?” I say under my breath. Thoughtfully, Lynx takes my hand and squeezes it as Ryker places his hand on my thigh.
All Levi can do is shrug, and the action looks so foreign on him.
Well, ready or not—bring on the VR experience.
CHAPTER 11
Bonfires Lead to Dust

Do you know what the best feeling in the world is? It’s not being body slammed into the ground by a fucking gorilla, that’s for sure. I mean that literally.
“Stop resisting and stay down,” a gruff voice yelled.
