Kiss the Booboo

Levi

The room suddenly stops shaking, and a few of the guys laugh.

“Just like the one that landed us here,” JP chuckles nervously.

“Or the earthquake we felt a few weeks ago, huh?” Ryker jokes.

“Yeah, but we at least know wh—”

“Where’s Rez?” Knots asks, jumping from his chair.

“Should we be worried that Lucifer is gone too?” Moni asks as her bark cycles through a light teal and pale white.

Chester reaches for her coffee and coaxes her to drink it. Once she takes a sip, her bark returns to green.

“Nonsense. He probably took her to a private room to talk. Continue eating,” Lilith says.

I look at my companions and easily pick up their unease, but there’s not much I can do. I’ve been to Hell before, but I’ve never been to L.A.M.B.’s. residence, so I wouldn’t even know where to look for her. Unfortunately, we have to trust Lilith and hope she understands how much Rez means to all of us.

“Did I miss anything while I was busy with my little nuisances last night?” Lilith asks as she cuts up her food.

“By nuisances, do you mean the destruction of the Demons that possessed you?” Lynx flat out asks.

I swear, he’s got a death wish.

“Why yes. It’s a great way to relieve stress. If you ever want to learn, I don’t mind teaching you.” She looks up, smiling at Lynx. “For some reason, I was outvoted on the council to teach that at the academy, so instead, I fill in to teach where I can.”

“One of the things we talked about was how I found a note saying that they were unsuccessful at acquiring a target at Lilith’s ritual,” Knox says before taking a bite of his biscuit.

He does it the smart way, just throwing it out there to see what happens. I’ve already talked to Lilith about this, and she said hooded people came in and attacked them, but let’s see if her story has changed or if there’s any new evidence.

“Is that all it said?” she asks frantically. “It’s been driving me nuts, not knowing what happened.” Lilith’s eyes dart back and forth between Knox, Bez, me, and her plate.

“Lil… calm down,” Bez says, grabbing one of her hands.

“NO!” she yells and stands up. “You don’t understand what it felt like, to be there with your children or helping a student and then all of a sudden, black out. Or to wake up and find blood on you, not knowing what the fuck you did!” Her entire body shakes as her wings flare out.

Bez stands up and conjures a fire ball, holding it in front of her. “Lilith, look at the fire. Concentrate on the fire.”

“I don’t want the fucking fire, Bez! I want the truth!” she roars, throwing her hands up and knocking the fire out of his hands. Bez quickly extinguishes it before it catches the room on fire. She starts pacing the short distance at the end of the table as her tail whips manically and her wings flutter about, making it hard for Bez to get close to her. “I should have made those fuckers suffer more. I should have gotten the answers I needed.” She turns around to leave but stops suddenly as the room pressurizes, making my ears pop.

Silver smoke appears, and Lucifer is standing in front of Lilith, blocking her way.

“Calm down, Lily. We will get answers. But first, let us have some breakfast before we go skinning, okay?” Lucifer coos.

I hear muffled words coming from behind me, so I get out of my seat and look out the door. Down the hall, Rez is stomping her feet as she mumbles.

I pick up frustration, anger, and amusement from her as I jog up to her. “Rez?” I ask, getting her attention.

“Oh, hey!” she says, smiling up at me.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” I ask, checking her over anyway to see if I can spot any damage. Her hoodie shifts briefly, and I catch discoloration around her neck. Reaching up, I move her collar and fury takes over. There’s a bright red mark around her neck that wasn’t there a few moments ago.

Without thinking, I turn around and march back into the dining room. Rez yells something, but I pay no attention as my thoughts are set on Mommy dearest’s best friend. As soon as I walk into the room, Lucifer stands up at the head of the table, fixing his jacket while everyone is still seated.

I feel Rez come up behind me, pulling on my arm to stop me, but my thoughts are locked on the Devil himself. My first idea is to freeze the fucker. He doesn’t get a chance to move, just like he didn’t give Rez a chance to get out of his choke hold. Lucifer’s eyes go wide in shock, and I feel him pushing against my hold. I’m not even questioning how I’m able to control him without touching him, but I’ll take whatever I can right now.
